Does FaceTime work for you?
Yes, everything works. Also with what I learnt from other poster, I dared upgrading from 17.7 to 18.1.1. Its now working on ios18 also.

Why it didnt work out of box on ios18, I dont know. But downgrading to 17.16.1 beta, make the SIM work and then simply upgrade to 18.1 seems to stick for now.
This process is so flaky, cant wait for 12 months to pass.

My FaceTime isn't working using MKSD 5.6 with T-Mobile. Anyone else having this issue?
I don't know why, but it looks like some others have experienced issues with FaceTime and iMessage when using MKSD. Someone mentions it here …

Has anyone ever traded in a carrier locked phone to Apple to get a gift card (or trade-in credit for a new phone at the time of trade)?
Yes, I did when the iPhone 13 mini came out, traded a carrier locked iPhone 12 mini at Best Buy but I've read it works the same at Apple.

Metro is 1yr unlock period -- you need to pay for at least 1mo of service then hold the device until it unlocks or use as a wifi device (or you can keep paying Metro for another 11 months)

If you want short 60 day unlock period then go for Straight Talk deal instead:

Once I activate and port in my number, I'm going to place the iPhone in a drawer. However, can I still remove the metro SIM, place it in another phone (Android?) and use the one month service on a different phone without it affecting anything?

You will need to do a device switch as the line is tied to the IMEI. There is a place to do that online and also in the Metro app but it sometimes doesn't work if you are switching the line to a non-Metro phone. I had to call Metro CS several times before I found someone who was willing to waive the $25 fee for doing the switch over the phone.

Yeah, it seems like nobody has been curious enough to try yet. Personally, I'm thinking that it will likely still unlock so I'll give it a shot. It's not a huge deal if not, as I like to have a phone around for testing purposes that only needs Wi-Fi anyway.
Not sure if there's any new message after your posting date, but I can confirm that they will be unlocked without being taken out of the box!

I jumped on a similar deal back in February/March on iPhone 12's with the plan to trade them in for iPhone 16's (I'm a T-Mobile postpaid customer). According to those IMEI checking sites, they were all carrier-locked back then. 6 months later, they all became unlocked according to the same websites, including three that were sealed in the box. Unless they change their policy in the next 12 months, you should all be good if you plan to gift them in the next holiday season or sell them sealed for a better price. I just sold sold the two today that I didn't use to trade.

This is different from T-Mobile postpaid. As a postpaid T-Mobile customer, if you buy an iPhone from T-Mobile, not only do you have to activate it with your sim card on the network, you also cannot take the sim card out and use it in a different device for 40 days, AND you have to pay off the EIP balance (forfeiting any remaining credit). Fortunately, devices bought directly from Apple are unlocked from day one even if they're financed by T-Mobile.

So if you're new to Metro, I'd suggest you start with an iPhone 12, use that one to manage your account and then buy as many as iPhone 13's if you're allowed to - until you're "blacklisted", as I'm now Frown

Cool … thanks for letting us know! I figured there were probably some people out there who had tried at some point, but a year is a long time so most of them probably don't remember to give updates by then.

I added the phone to cart, selected a number I want to port in from Google Voice, Selected the required plan but it still says $479 instead of $99.

Wow, this is great news! Thanks for sharing! But I assume that the line still needs to be activated in order to trigger the unlocking timer? I have a 12 that will be delivered today but I'm not able to activate the line because my account is suspended and my 72hr grace extension expired on Monday. I will have to try switching the device for a line in my other Metro account over to this 12.
