Thanks OP! I just added a google voice number to my google account and ported that in. Takes no time at all. You'll need to go to GV settings and pay $3.00 to unlock the number. You'll also need to enable the "Call to Listen" setting under Voicemail which will let you set a PIN which Metro will ask for. You'll also need the google account number which is just the phone number.
Looks like a free Pixel 10.

My order did not go through after the "Place your order" button, and it is not in the cart anymore. Metro is not allowing me to use that number anymore. Numberbarn is saying that the number is porting out. Has anyone faced this issue?

Yes you need to call metro and have the. Unblock the number from their database. Did this 3x and first time took me 3 days to figure this out.

I did this with visible and the second 2 x I just asked visible chat bot to issue me a new number.

For those who're lucky enough to order more than two, there's a hard limit of 5 discounted phones under the Plus plan. Once you reach that limit, don't try to add another line. I totally forgot that was my experience earlier this year.

You may buy phones (e.g. some low end Androids) requiring a lower tiered plan, but I don't think they're worth buying given the new one year unlock policy. Androids depreciate much faster than iPhones.

You may be able to buy an A9+ tablet, but online ordering will only let you buy one per account.

I'm done with this deal. I still have two Visible numbers. Maybe I'll try to see if I can open a new account after the New Year, but an earlier attempt failed.

* Edit: my extra Visible number has been claimed *

For those of you still doing this Metro deal and need a number to port-in, I have an extra Visible number. The Visible account is now suspended (for non-payment) but they cannot block the port-out for this reason. I also just regenerated the port-out PIN which is good for 7 days. Anyways, PM me for the port-out info.

Pretty similar experience. Three 12s on one account then it got locked hard. Friend got an account and got a 13 and a 12 then got locked down. Doesn't seem to be a pattern. Wonder what happens next year.
I was only able to order one iPhone using my first Metro account. I had used the same email last year to order 2 free iPhone 11's so it seems that the system "remembered" me even though that original Metro account would've long been closed (I didn't pay for any more months of service beyond the first month). Fortunately I had better luck with a new Metro account that was created using my wife's identity.

Did you turn on and setup those phones originally? How many were you able to trade in?

Never heard of a sealed iPhone failing Apple Genius Bar. The only remote possibility I can think of is a bad actor at Metro's warehouse swapped out the original iPhone with a third-party refurb. But that merits serious investigation on the part of Metro.

Have you compared IMEI's as shown in your account, on the box, and on the device? Do they all match? Run your device's the IMEI on some IMEI checking websites and see what comes back.

My iPhone 12 was rejected at Apple Store for trade-in. Bought from Metro, came in a sealed box and looked brand new. The imei number is the same on the phone and box. The coverage/purchased date was when I activated the phone on Metro. Used the phone as a backup and in November, tried to trade-in. Apple Store even scanned the phone 3 times and came back as a "not original parts". Pretty sure Metro site had the same imei (but can't double check anymore). Below is imei check results and SICKW shows the same results.

The returned info looks accurate. I don't understand why Genius Bar found problem with your phone. You never had a hard drop since you got it, did you?

If I were you, I would update it to the latest iOS and try a different Apple store. At the 16 launch, I traded in 3 iPhone 12's (all bought from Metro but at the current 13 price) including one that was sealed and had to be charged on the spot. I didn't experience any issue.

Good luck!

Looking for experience/advice for this situation regarding unlocking:

Bought and activated an iPhone 12 in January '24. It's still not unlocked. Metro customer service tells me two different stories:

1) the phone will unlock exactly after 12 months even though it was activated BEFORE the T&C changed from 6 months post activation to 12 months.

2) A supervisor gave me some BS story that the phone was never activated even though I have text messages on the phone confirming that the phone was activated. When this information was shared her story changed to "oh you did not USE or service for at least 180 days.

Question: Has anyone experienced this run around? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

TIA!
