Yes you need to call metro and have the. Unblock the number from their database. Did this 3x and first time took me 3 days to figure this out.
I did this with visible and the second 2 x I just asked visible chat bot to issue me a new number.
You may buy phones (e.g. some low end Androids) requiring a lower tiered plan, but I don't think they're worth buying given the new one year unlock policy. Androids depreciate much faster than iPhones.
You may be able to buy an A9+ tablet, but online ordering will only let you buy one per account.
I'm done with this deal. I still have two Visible numbers. Maybe I'll try to see if I can open a new account after the New Year, but an earlier attempt failed.
For those of you still doing this Metro deal and need a number to port-in, I have an extra Visible number. The Visible account is now suspended (for non-payment) but they cannot block the port-out for this reason. I also just regenerated the port-out PIN which is good for 7 days. Anyways, PM me for the port-out info.

i thought these were new phones.
Did you turn on and setup those phones originally? How many were you able to trade in?
Have you compared IMEI's as shown in your account, on the box, and on the device? Do they all match? Run your device's the IMEI on some IMEI checking websites and see what comes back.

If I were you, I would update it to the latest iOS and try a different Apple store. At the 16 launch, I traded in 3 iPhone 12's (all bought from Metro but at the current 13 price) including one that was sealed and had to be charged on the spot. I didn't experience any issue.
Good luck!

Bought and activated an iPhone 12 in January '24. It's still not unlocked. Metro customer service tells me two different stories:
1) the phone will unlock exactly after 12 months even though it was activated BEFORE the T&C changed from 6 months post activation to 12 months.
2) A supervisor gave me some BS story that the phone was never activated even though I have text messages on the phone confirming that the phone was activated. When this information was shared her story changed to "oh you did not USE or service for at least 180 days.
Question: Has anyone experienced this run around? Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
TIA!
