Deal History includes data from multiple reputable stores, such as Best Buy, Target, and Walmart. The lowest price among stores for a given day is selected as the "Sale Price".
Sale Price does not include sale prices at Amazon unless a deal was posted by a community member.
If you don't have a PS5 yet and don't care about the PS5 PRO hold your horses! Sony and other retailers usually bundle the PS5 console along with a free game included for the same price $449 during BF Holiday.
Four years in and we are still only getting remastered games. PSN Plus is now $79.99 a year, Sony also increased the prices of their controllers from $74.99 to $79.99. The worse generation of gaming ever.

Reading the comments… Is PS5 slim really going to be discounted further?
Just got xbox series X for $380 at Target. Thinking to return and buy ps5 instead
Doubt it. Unless Sony announce a price cut. Just look at the price for the Pro. The best deal from last year was from Target BF. Where the disc model was sold for $350 or lower with Target circle card. But that was only because they were clearing out the stocks for the fat model. This year some stores might throw in a free game or controller with $50 off.
If by cutting edge you mean butter-knife edge, yes. This tech is pretty old at this point.
The tech is the AI-driven upscaling: PSSR, which was not available in 2020 when PS5 released. It makes the image quality look even better than base PS5 Quality mode.
Now whether you think it's worth the cost of $700, for the limited number of supported titles, and current PS5 library, that's a different thing.
The PS5 Pro is for those that want the best image, at 60fps. I think most people will be fine with the base PS5.

Sorry, thought you were talking about the general Slim PS5 in your original comment. But to relate to your current one: The original PS5 has AI-driven upscaling (FSR) and in general AI-upscaling is not new to the world of gaming. DLSS has been around since 2018. So the Pro version has a new version and it has Sony's name in the title, but it's not cutting edge by any means at this point.

From my research, only FSR4 is AI-driven, as the difference between FSR3 and 4 is the frame generation which is AI-powered, and FSR4 isn't even out yet. So yes, it is cutting-edge.

The use of AI in AMD's FSR 4 technology is expected to resemble the Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) used in the PlayStation 5 Pro, a technology that enhances image quality without sacrificing performance. This integration demonstrates AMD's move towards AI as a key feature in its future graphics architecture.
This is especially true because we are talking about the console space -- not the PC. Cutting edge on the PC environment is obviously a different realm than the consoles, and nobody would conflate the two.
On top of that, Playstation uses AMD GPU; not Nvidia where your mention of DLSS applies.

I mentioned DLSS because that's machine learning upscaling, obviously, which is the "cutting edge" technology you spoke of first.
Ah so, even though the technology has been around since 2018, it's now "cutting-edge" because it's on consoles? Let's move goal posts I guess. Oh wait, the frame generation is the cutting edge part? Oops, rtx 40-series had it, two years ago. Oh but consoles have their own technology race now...
There is no conflagration. Gaming technology is comparable regardless of what box it comes in.
How hard was it to get the $335 ps5 last year? I'm guessing it was limited and you're against a bunch of bots scrapper

It was through Target at $350 (assuming people left out 5% red card discount) on only the fat PS5. It was only sold in store. Unless you stood in line on BF you didn't get the offer. Some people had luck price matching the slim bundle that just released.

It was actually available online. It went live on 11/24/2023 at 3am EST -
I got a PS5 w/ disc drive for $350 last year. If I remember correctly, it had to be available locally for pickup, I don't think it was available for shipping. So it was YMMV. I did not have to "line up" to get it, but you had to be up early to order it while it was available (ordered online for in-store pickup).

Obviously tech in PC is different than tech in the console space -- because consoles cannot upgrade their GPU or CPU or RAM in the same manner as PCs.
So yes, tech differs in these two spaces, as PC will always be adopting faster than consoles which only get an upgrade every console generation, or in this case, mid-generation refresh with the PS5 Pro.
But even if you wanted to play that game and define bleeding-edge tech -- you completely ignored the fact that DLSS only applies to Nvidia products, which Playstation does not apply. So then you'd have to compare the PSSR tech to the closest equivalent which is AMD's upcoming FSR 4 technology -- which is the definition of cutting-edge tech: since it's not even out yet.

How Sony achieved this is pretty simple: the RT hardware inside the PlayStation 5 Pro comes from AMD's next-generation Radeon graphics hardware, or RDNA 4. This has been confirmed by Mark Cerny, Sony's lead PlayStation system architect.
"PS5 Pro uses the new advanced [ray tracing] feature sets that AMD created as the next step in their roadmap architecture," Mark Cerny told CNET. "But if you look around, there are no other AMD GPUs that use it yet. We motivated the development, and I'm very happy we did so - the response from the developers has been extraordinarily great."
Thanks to the PlayStation 5 Pro, the next generation of Radeon graphics cards for PC will also include a massive 2X or 3X boost to RT performance - a game changer for Radeon.
Yet, there is bespoke hardware in the PS5 Pro, allowing it to use PSSR (PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution), an AI upscaling engine that sounds an awful lot like Nvidia's DLSS (Deep Learning Super Sampling). AMD has yet to update FSR (FidelityFX Super Resolution) to use the machine learning hardware built into RDNA 3 graphics cards, but that could very well change when the Radeon RX 8000-series is revealed – whenever that will be.
Obviously tech in PC is different than tech in the console space -- because consoles cannot upgrade their GPU or CPU or RAM in the same manner as PCs.

Just admit your ignorance on the matter, since you lost the point and are in the midst of coping with it.
It is completely irrelevant that the AMD GPUs don't use DLSS, that's not the point whatsoever. The point is that AI-upscaling has been around since 2018 and you keep ignoring that to focus on the simple fact that "Playstation has never had it." Just admit that you keep moving the goal post and giving consoles a handicap by saying that the technology isn't comparable as a coping mechanism. It's not bleeding-edge technology in 2024, you were wrong from the start.

They were clearing the fat ps5 last year for the the slim versions. Not likely any deals like that that again

As it's very clearly stated, consoles don't get their components upgraded like PCs. So to hold them to the same standard is completely wrong. By your definition, consoles will never getting 'cutting edge tech', due to how they release in 6-8 year increments. And I'm sure that's your intention all along; to argue in bad faith. Consoles compare themselves to it's peers -- other consoles.
And once again, you ignored the comparable tech of PSSR being equivalent to the upcoming FSR4, which hasn't been released yet, among the other GPU advancements I listed for your own education.
