That's a solid price for the saw and stand. I ended up buying the Skil saw for around $250 that's comparable, but the Skil can do Dado blades and is 10" vs. this one at 8". This saw can do most of what a DIY weekend warrior like myself can. Not a bad deal if you need the less capable sized saw. Rack and pinion is a must on any table saw.

This is the saw I purchased:
https://www.amazon.com/Portable-J...B08F9RFJ2K

I think I got it for around $250 when it was posted here around last Christmas. The price bounces around usually from $250-$300 depending when you buy it.

So far I've only used it for normal rip cuts and I've been highly impressed. After using this Dewalt saw a friend had and experiencing the rack and pinion, I knew the next table saw I bought had to have it. You can do the most minute and repeatable measurements with that setup.

I have an old Skil table saw that did the job, but it was pretty basic and crude. It was hard to get repeatable cuts on it since the fence was so crappy. It also had a metal stand that took up a bunch of room. The Skil saw I linked has fold up lets that are awesome.

I really have nothing but good things to say about the Skil so far after about a half dozen projects. The Dewalt saw is nice too, but its definitely in a different lower category only being 8" and no dado. The Skil is more comparable to the next up 10" Dewalt saw that's typically closer to $450-$550.

Thanks for an insightful reply.
I do like the "Rack and pinion" feature after watching a few videos. Thinking to pull the trigger with Dewalt

I bought one, but after talking to a. Few friends they have me convinced that I should return it. I feel like this will do what I need right now (rip flooring), but they all agreed that they thought the 10" model as worth the extra if I did anything else with it. I'm kind of torn, because at $300 it makes sense for me to buy it. At $550 for the 10", I'm not sure it really makes enough sense for me to own one vs borrow a friend's. On the other hand, I don't want to spend $300 now, then end up having to spend $550 a year down the road if I end up needing the big one. Do you all have any opinions on this?

I think it really depends on what you plan to be doing. I have been using this saw and have nothing but good things to say about it. It is a very capable saw, though I wouldn't go as far as to rip cut full sheets of plywood on it, at least when I'm working by myself. There's just not enough support for that. The top things I like about this saw are the rack and pinion fence which makes cuts accurately, and the blade which is able to make cuts that are smooth that I don't even need to sand.
If you do plan to work with full sheets of plywood or use dados, then you would definitely need to go for the 10 inch version. Otherwise, I think this 8 inch version is all you'll need.
One limitation of this saw that I see as a feature is that the blade being 8 inches and the motor being weaker means that it's less dangerous. I experienced kickback using this saw where a piece bruised my stomach. could've been much worse if I was using the 10 inch saw. Alas, it was a good learning experience and I'm now much more careful about not standing behind the piece I'm cutting.

You make great points all around on this vs. a 10" saw.

SlowR1der:
I went with the Skil 10" saw that has a lot of the same features as the 10" Dewalt. I own mostly Dewalt and higher class tools even though I'm only a weekend DIY warrior. The Skil clicked all the boxes and it goes down to around $250 regularly. Check it out, I've used it on a handful of projects and I've been very happy. I've used this exact Dewalt saw, it worked great, but its definitely more limiting than the 10" saws. The Skil so far has done a few projects and I've very impressed. I wanted something that could also store compactly and the Skil does that extremely well, where the 10" Dewalt is bulky no matter what on the stand.

I inherited a Skil saw about 10 years ago that is probably 25 years old. Thing still works great, but the fence is wonky and was hard to get accurate repeatable cuts so I upgraded to the Skil with the Rack and pinion setup. The old Skil has proven itself time again on easily 100 projects, and its been loaned out at least a dozen times and came back working great still. So a new Skil was worth taking the chance on at 1/2 the cost of the Dewalt.

I wanted the 10" Dewalt, and I almost just went for it a few times, but I'm glad I spent 1/2 and went with the Skil.
