Can anyone confirm if Metro locked phones can be used on T-Mobile or not. I have seen some comments saying yes and some saying no.

This might be a ymmv thing, but I just got a Samsung Galaxy a35 delivered yesterday that I bought as a backup device from metro online (for the $35 add a line deal). I didn't activate it through their website and before even turning it on I put in my T-Mobile prepaid SIM card. Then when I booted it up it registered to T-Mobile's network (and not metro's) and worked perfectly. I then updated everything (apps, os, etc) and it still worked with tmo. And I'm sure it wasn't using metro's network because the month that I paid for with metro had expired the day before. Weird thing is that it never had (or tried to install) the metro esim. When I took the TMO sim out, it didn't show anything indicating it was a metro phone. I will add though that when I checked it's locked status, it said it was still locked. My concern is though, that since I never activated it on metro's network, that it won't unlock after 365 days (or whatever time period it is nowadays), but for a $35 backup phone I don't really care.

EDIT
I'll add that when I checked the sims on this phone, there isn't a metro esim installed (or any esim) and when I log into my metro account, the phone isn't even listed on my account, which really makes me wonder what's going to happen to the Google voice number I ported over to add this line.

Yes, this is so true. I did the same for the Motorola phones and the Samsung tablet with TMO SIM; both work. Unfortunately, when I bought the iPhone 12, it came with eSim which prevented me from doing it for the iPhone.

Thanks for the detailed input. I'll give it a shot then.

iPhone from Metro never worked on Tmobile. It's more like a Samsung thing.

Just got my A35 4 days ago. Popped T mobile sim in and it take the service just fine. Note that metro now ship their phone with Esim preinstalled so u don't have to look for the physical sim in the box anymore

This actually is a bad thing. Because Sometimes you don't want to turn on your phone with the sim in it.

I'm not sure you're right, the esim might be downloaded/installed at the initial boot up (though I actually don't know for sure either way). And this might vary between androids and iphones.

When I tried about a year ago I was not able to. The phone had a TMobile startup screen and everything, but the actual service would not work.
