I have two of these. Highly recommend. Both are used as a freezer only. Bought the first one during Covid to stock up on supplies. Two years later, I decided to get another to store beef when we are buying directly from a farm. Both have been really reliable.

Is it garage ready? https://www.bestbuy.com/site/ques...2e4e6a0b3c
Specs say it's fine if the ambient temperature is 0-110°F. Not all garages will stay in that range, but many will. That is likely only for freezer temperatures. It'll probably not be able to keep food from freezing in a 0°F garage all winter.

Same sale as a few months ago. Picked up the 17' unit for garage Costco storage and it's worked as advertised. No complaints for basic spare freezer.

Garage is typically get hotter or colder than the inside of your house as they are not insulated the same. Therefore the temperature can fluctuate from below freezing to over 100. Garage ready means they can handle those temperatures.

A related question.. does one need to have dedicated gfi outlet to plug fridge in garage or just gfi outlet is enough ? I am getting conflicting info. Some electricians are saying just gfi is enough but builders electrician is saying it should've dedicated too.

Non GFCI dedicated is best. GFCI can trip due to the sudden power need of starting the compressor motor. That's happened to me more than once even with a new GFCI outlet - it eventually tripped. Take this advice at your own risk, I'm not an electrician. That may not be code. If you are plugging into a GFCI I highly recommend an alarm if the power goes out to the outlet. If you run it on your existing garage outlet circuit vs dedicated you also have a little higher chance of something else running at the same time to trip the circuit, but I imagine the vast majority of people aren't calling electricians out to run a dedicated circuit for their freezer. Assuming you have a 20A circuit, just plug it in and add an alarm.

the Insignia brand makes me nervous, and my primary use would be as a garage freezer. Not sure how often, if ever, I'd use the "convertible" feature. But trying to decide between this Insignia vs. this Frigidaire 13 CU freezer @ $548 at Home Depot: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Frigi.../310534496

Thoughts?

This is a freezer... if it keeps food from freezing in ambient 0°F temps, the only thing I could think of is that its on fire... and then you have bigger problems to deal with.
