Good price, about $34 lower than average, but not the lowest ever ($176.99). Check camelcamelcamel for price trends. Can't post it here.

Sony does have speed requirements for the Gen 4 SSDs but this one barely just falls short of it. However this does make for great drive in a gaming computer
Plus this doesn't have a heatsink and Sony recommends one

OOF, yeah. I was half expecting to get called out for trashing the TBW on this drive. I mean, it's pretty sh*tty. But as your example proves, it's really about use case.

I'm not sure though... depends on how much you're downloading really. Seeding = "infinite" drive life. So I guess it depends on how much you expect to DL. I think I've traditionally downloaded everything to HDD's. I wouldn't mind this drive for backups, but 800TBW doesn't inspire much confidence. I've been thinking about buying a ~2TB datacenter SSD. Something that you can do multiple DRIVE writes to per day, and will last you 5 years+.

I'd go with the HDD for downloads Big Grin.
I've got a micron enterprise SSD in my system and it's got like 60k hours on it and still says something like 85% in crystaldisk lol

Can anyone comment on if this is a good price for storage for gaming? All I care about is keeping steam games on a second drive to make reformating easier. Would rarely move large files from one drive to the other. All this speed and DRAM stuff doesn't seem important for my use case unless someone can point out why.
I got my leven 4tb last year around black Friday for $130 I should have bought two! Id say wait for black Friday

This is where gen 5 belongs with Dram.... Gen 4 is $50 per TB, with ram! Gen 5 should be dropping in price soon with way better stuff coming soon after, so don't pay more than you have to for any of it. When you see WD and Samsung price drop, you know it's game on time to pay attention!

Is this it, chief? My god, $50 per TB.
This is where all gen 4 drives belong, $50 or less! Gen 5 barely belongs at $100 per TB, and those numbers are about to change! I guess if you were born yesterday then you won't remember the prices from just 10-12 months ago. history repeats...... Wait for the wheel as they say.

800TBW LOL, wow.
Not sure why this is getting downvoted. This is actually really helpful. For a 4TB drive this is pretty low. Basically if you filled this drive up 200 times from empty you would have used up the rated life of this drive.

The problem is, 99% of users will never fill up even 200TB of that in its lifespan. Some people live in a fantasy land. Unless you are a content creator or developer going through terabytes a week...

Does this work with ps5? (with a heatsink on ofc)

This one works but it's technically just below the official speed requirements so YMMV in the future

I totally agree there. But my comment was in regards to the fact that people downvoted the other comment that called out the 800TBW. I think it's very relevant, particularly when you're talking about someone who would buy a 4TB SSD today. There's a very good chance they're doing a lot of writing because it's currently cheaper (per TB) to buy a 2TB drive. As someone who does video production and was thinking about buy this, that comment shut this idea down. Either way, it was a useful observation without me having to dig for it.
