Sad they are leaving the business. While there's more than enough MUCH cheaper knockoff units and supplies out there, Aerogarden's lamp brightness and build quality is still unmatched. Their farm units were one of a kind. Their food was trash though.
Still, they made great, reliable gifts.

Anyone found a good alternative brand that matches the lamp output?

I've only seen them spec their lamps in watts. On what basis are you assessing/comparing brightness?

What made their food "trash?" Is all Miracle-Gro "trash?"

The wife was just gifted an aerogarden by her sister, time to stock up on generic pods and stuff before prices skyrocket

I love these. I have 2 bounties & 2 harvest. I use them to start plants from seed. I can have 150 tomato plants ready to plant in 2 weeks

Not happening, plenty of generic around. If fact that's probably why they are out of business

is it actually worth the hassle if you're not growing weed, just regular greens (basil, cilantro, etc.)? btw, FB marketplace is filled with these, many are brand new.

i don't take scientific measurements, but I have 4 aerogarden models and 8 different off brand and I'm a part of several online communities for these unites. Everyone has been on the hunt for an alternative to AG. No one has found a unit equal in lamp output. Many people measure. Others share anecdotal evidence in these communities.
AG food lacks micronutrients (at least in any measurable quantities) which are essential for many plant's health, flowering, and fruiting. Getting fruit from just AG nutrients is difficult and slow. Most enthusiasts use 3rd party nutes like General Hydro, but even cheap A/B nutes perform better than the AG stuff.
