Why do they say it's for the MacBook Pro? Is this not a generic PD charger? Is it GaN? I see "MacBook Pro" / "Apple" everywhere in the description but not the Voltage and Amperage it can provide. Why?

Marketing.

I wouldn't expect GaN at this price.

Also doesn't support PPS since it's an older model. Still, decent deal for a no-frills 100W charger.​

Got it. That's pretty dumb marketing. Apple intentionally makes their product NOT compatible with anything else. It's a constant headache for all of us who are forced to buy their products. When I buy a charger, I want it to be universal, not apple only. I want it to be compatible with the PD industry standard.

All of their USB C products are compliant with USB PD charging now, the older ones just did it over Lightning instead. The laptops have been compliant since they switched over the USB PD. They don't have any proprietary charging standards; they just had proprietary ports on the mobile devices up till last year, when the EU forced them to convert to USB C, but that's the port itself, not the charging protocol.

I use wireless charger to solve the compatability problem.
