Even though it's a 4k monitor with many embedded functionalities the 60hz max refresh rate really kills it for me. It's 2024 anything below 120hz should be discontinued in my opinion!
Variety exists for a reason. Companies make ranges of products to allow for affordability of those products.
Not everyone games or plays 4k blu ray discs. Not everyone wants (or needs) an LG OLED or an Alienware PC.
I use a cheap monitor, for example, for 24/7 live viewing of my security system. 120hz display would be useless, IN MY OPINION. But I wouldn't go about saying the products should be discontinued!
Just me $0.02. To each their own!

It would also mean the USB-C wouldn't work for single cable for a lot of machines. You can only get 4k 60hz on usb-C. that alone is worth it for lots of people.

The same education discount applies to the newer:
32" for $269.99
43" for $290.01
I have the 32" M70B (2 generations older) and it's great. I have it in portrait mode, to the left of my hutch.
It's a little large for me, but I got it for a $161.99 promo (it was $180 but I talked to chat and they gave me another 10% off, which was why I chatted, but it doesn't seem as if they give that out as much any more).
I got the 1 generation older 32" M80B for $200 as a TV for my exercise room & really like it. The screen is super crisp & has a matte finish that I like. It's a VA panel (quick search online says this 1 is too) but I view it directly on, from my stationary bike. A monitor with a remote ended up being perfect for me.

What kind of a monitor do you recommend? I'm looking for one for my security system. Thanks!

I'm weird, so hear me out....
I just bought 27" 2k monitor during the Prime sale this week for $118.xx
My 2k security system is hidden in a cabinet on the upper floor, and I've run a 50 foot HDMI cable downstairs inside a closet in the master bedroom with a sliding door that's always open.
Monitor is on and connected to a Kasa switch that turns on at 6:00am every day and turns off at midnight. Basically the 6 hours per day of power saving, I would think, extends the life by about 25%.
Reason I got this particular monitor is that it has built-in speakers and 2 HDMI inputs, with one for the security system, while the other one has a $20 onn. 4k streaming box from Walmart plugged into it.
You see, the security is always displayed on it, but if I ever want the morning news or YouTube music on while working or the wife wants a show while cleaning or whatever, the monitor acts as a little TV capable of streaming and mirroring.
For $120 + 20 for the 4k onn device, it's a no brainer FOR MY USE CASE.
Here's the link to the monitor I just got...
MSI PRO MP275Q 27 Inch WQHD Office Monitor - 2560 x 1440 IPS Panel, 100 Hz, Eye-Friendly Screen, Built-in Speakers, Tilt-Adjustable - HDMI 2.0b, DP (1.2a)
Is this not just a smart TV being sold as a "monitor"? It's a 60hz frame rate, 4ms(gtg) response time, and has no TV tuner. It feels like it has a bit of both but doesn't excel at either.
