I've flown them twice. While it's true that they charge you for everything, it's a muchhhh different experience than other similar US budget airline carriers. The customer service is amazing and prices for food/drinks were very cheap (e.g Asahi was less than $2 USD). Japanese airlines (even a budget airline) are on another level.

This is a Japanese airline (I think owned by ANA or Japan Air, so is nowhere near Spirit airlines quality when it comes to service.

It's $333 one way, not round trip.

I've been tracking HTX to Japan flights weekly for several months and this is definitely the lowest the price has ever been. Yes, there are Spirit-esque fees for everything but they add up to much less than the competition. There are very few direct flights to Tokyo from Houston, so the shorter travel time adds to the value. (I booked a ticket).

As others have said, pack like a college student and you can save a few dollars here and there. Board the plane wearing multiple layers, bring an empty water bottle to fill up at the terminal, buy food at the airport and bring it onto the plane for you to eat later. Stuff like that.

If this is your first time going to Japan, I recommend going on the first half of March, as the second half is a bit warmer and closer to Cherry Blossom season but also a busy Spring Break for the youths over there. This is my 2nd trip to Japan so I plan on doing the 2nd half with more hiking, more onsens, checking out the new destinations built since 2018, and more socializing with the locals.
I'm traveling solo but I'm down to make friends or have lunch with anyone traveling on the same flight. 🙂
bring your own sandwich. airport food expensive.

Anybody knows if they are going to fly later in the year from Houston? I only see flights in March. I'd like to go in October.
