I am not accountable for anything above. Just asking a question.
But to answer your question, 100% they were not $60 2 years ago as the drive was released 9.5 months ago.
Two years ago the 980 PRO was about $225 for 2TB and the 970 EVO was about $200.
Last Year they were about $100 and $75, respectively.
So the drive you were asking about, the time frame you were asking about, and the price you were asking about were all wildly incorrect.
Why did I take the time to google this when you couldn't? Brandolini's Law.

990 Evo for $120???????
I think they meant to say $85.... Must be a typo.
there are other similar ssds for cheaper if you are brand agnostic

But they both use TLC, both have the same write endurance, the same warranty, is it worth the price difference? Depends what's important to you, sale for sale, I think the PRO at 2TB was going for $140, so it's only a $20 difference, it's whether or not that really is important to you. Unfortunately for me, I'm looking more in the 4TB+ arena for size, m.2 slots are precious, I gotta think about the future.
Honestly, any gen 4 drive will be fine, dramless or not, as the PS5 isn't going to load games significantly faster. you're looking at a few seconds saved, not minutes. streaming data from the SSD while playing wouldn't be affected as games aren't loading multi gigabytes of data per second (yet).
You want to know what can affect your PS5 loading times appreciably? Whether or not you have a good heatsink on your ssd. Once the heat ramps up on your SSD, it will throttle speeds. The heatsink will help keep up with sustained transfers. If you had to decide between 2 models that were priced the same, and one had slower transfers than the other but has a heatsink and the faster one has no heatsink, get the former. And if you have an ssd installed without a heatsink to buy one. You can score one for less than 10 bucks (or even cheaper on temu/AliExpress) and that will help keep sustained transfers up and prolong the life of your SSD.
one word of caution: there's a bunch of no name 2 and 4 tb drives from Amazon. they look to have a lot of ratings but I am not familiar with these Chinese brands (what's Fikwot?) to take a chance with them yet. The price savings isn't worth the pain of you having to ship the product out to China if you have a problem .
tldr: buy the largest gen 4/5 drive you can afford that includes a heatsink, giving some preference to stuff like warranty, brand reputation, support in your country, etc.

M482 has slightly higher speeds (will you notice it?), but 990evo comes with newer nvme version and pcie version.

PCI-E 5.0X2 gets you nothing over PCI-E 4.0X4 in terms of theoretical bandwidth. The only thing it gets you is an extra 2 lanes for other hardware on certain motherboards.
