8gb is getting to be obsolete. Put this money towards a better gpu.
I dont think so, I would say this is good for 1080p casual gaming. However, the price of 180ish is more reasonable imo.

clearly a medium setting 1080P card, 8GB is plenty!

I was just testing 1080 high settings on a GTX 970 4GB card tonight and getting 70-100 FPS depending on which FPS title.

A lot of it depends on if your CPU + RAM can fill in the difference as well as if you're serious about competitive 144hz and higher.

People on slickdeals are always so quick to assume something working for people last year doesn't this year.

I wasn't clear there-
yeah there's gonna be games you can run 4k high settings and be 70fps especially with upscaling, only an issue with AAA open world games. i played shadow of the tomb raider at 1800p high and ultra settings on my 1080ti no problem and that was before upscaling

I'm saying the ram 'issue' just to do with 4k and ultra settings on the latest games. The medium settings of the latest games and upcoming games are gonna look like last gens ultra, like Lies of P for example , you can hardly see the difference between low and ultra. Alan Wake 2 or Harry Potter, clearly you're running 1080p and medium/high settings for the better performance, which in this area of memory demand, ram is never going to be an issue.

The hitches people get with ram can usually be alleviated by a simple drop from ultra fsr or dlss to balanced

Agreed. Why are people wasting money on this junk when they could be buying a 4090, right?

Graphics are great and all, but nothing beats good mechanics, story, replayability, etc. At a certain point "better" graphics has diminishing returns. Of course, my first MMO was a MUD lol; no graphics at all, unless you count colored text and the occasional ASCII art.
