What I will say about the pricing is that normally when I buy these MSRP is $80 and the sale price tends to be $40.
With all that being said personally this is a pass.
The main downfall of this fan is the digital buttons and no remote. First world problem, I know. I don't like that it goes on full blast when you turn it on. To turn it on, you have to physically walk to the fan, bend down, press the on button and quickly press the low button or it'll go on full power automatically. To turn off, you then have to physically walk to the fan, bend down, and press the off button. Sometimes, because the fan is so quiet, you would forget and leave the fan running all night. You can use the built in timer, or a smart switch to schedule and turning off, but you still have to walk to the fan and bend down to turn it on every time.
For the money, I recommend Dreo Pedestal fan. All the smart features you can dream off. My favorite model is the Dreo 513S [amazon.com]. It was on sale for $108 last week on Amazon. Aliexpress has it for $100 shipped every day.

I would pay for this if it had the physical controls, but because of the digital buttons you can't use this with smartplugs to control ON

That one has 1820 CFM, and this one has 584 CFM. Performance wise I'm not seeing any advantage.
Is it just looking better and more compact?

Note: 85% of the time the ceiling fan is on low, the other 15%, maybe medium. Rarely high as it's too much air moved.

I bought this fan for exactly why you are looking at it. It performed better than my expectations, and in a large room. It's primarily the only one I use now. My only complaint is that there's no timer/sleep function like on some of their other fans, It does have a "memory" so you can just turn it on and it will be at the speed it was when you turned it off.
Additional note. comparing to a ceiling fan it works far better because it truly circulates the air in the room. Think of it as a rock in a lake. it'll make ripples out everywhere, but only strong at the source. that's the ceiling fan. The vornado is more like a wave that pushes across the room and creates a current. It's a night and day difference.
