Can anyone confirm the risk profile of this? Can it stop mine from 'growing'?

Actually bought one of these, different brand name though, but same product. It was sold as a hair clipper and came with a bunch of guides. Used it to cut hair while traveling…. Worked fine. Definitely not as good as getting a corded oster/andes, but good for travel. It's lightweight, easily rechargeable (multi voltage), and cuts fine although slower than a real home unit. I'd get another if needed just for travel hair/beard cuts, but for the home, I'd stick with a proper corded one. Also, on the closest setting, mine was zero gapped from the factory and nicked my neck a few times…… I'd be very careful shaving and sensitive areas without a guard.
