The M12 line is fantastic for a smaller tool set and I think they're very well made. If you watch Project Farm on YouTube with smaller handheld drills/screwdrivers the Milwaukee was very impressive, IYKYK.
TL;DR - You can't go wrong with either set, but the 24v Kobalt line has a pretty wide range of tools now for lots of different applications including yard applications. I don't regret getting into that tool family at all.
