Unfamiliarity with the brand.

Music Man is a gutarist's guitar brand and not widely known. They make top notch instruments, and Sterling is like Squier is to Fender. Sterling also make great instruments for 1/2 the price of a real Music Man. You can't really go wrong with these instruments.

Sterling (and Music Man's) model numbers are confusing, so you really have to watch what you're getting. This is a great price on a Ray34- the lines go up in quality depending the number in front of the "4"

Ray34 - top of the line of their budget brand
Ray24 - slightly less better build
Ray4- starter instrument, no frills but still good

This is a great price on this bass. If you need a bass, go check out some reviews of the Ray34. You'll be suprised!

Why the thumbs down? You won't find a new Ray34 lower than this.

I think folks are confusing the Ray4 that were $250 with the ray34 in this deal.

That was well said. I'm a Music Man fan, and I gig with a Ray34. Other than an issue with one of the tuners, which Sterling resolved, I'm very happy with it.

Slight update to that info-there's a new ray2 model which is their new passive intro model. I haven't tried them but the colors are ugly and the ray4 was already subpar imo

My old sting ray Ernie ball was stolen back from a music fest, hellfest in Syracuse 2001 😭. I'm still pissed.

If it helps anyone decide due to wait time, I ordered this back in September and called customer service a couple weeks ago to get an ETA, which they said at that time is in mid-December.

If you like the model and finish this is definitely a slick deal, but one you'll have to wait to reap unless supply increases magically. Here's hoping!

Edit: Also, the finish is way more silver/gray than blue, which you can see in a few videos on YT.

i'm surprised that model/range gets so much love. without exaggerating i've tried buying it 4 different times over the past 7 years or so. 3 of the times one of the tuners was snapped out of the box. I had issues with the tree being dislodged as well, and the nut/frets being off etc. one of them had multiple cracks in the paint and neck joint. never got one worth keeping, even at their cheap price point. one day i may try the 34/35 series but not in a rush. the price on this one is good but not a fan of the color.

yeah i think i had like $200 in credit at GC so just bought a cheap bass to mess with so i paid like $100 out of pocket....i'd rather just get a fender squier at that point. the fretboard just feels yucky, but thats just me

Cool deal. Repped. As usual, you need to have your guitars setup before you play. If the neck isn't warped and there isn't any evidence of electronics being bad out of the box or tuners being snapped off; get it to your local luthier. Or do it yourself.

A instrument that is correctly setup will be a dream to play.
