This was just at the same price for weeks. What, did they raise the price for a couple days to put it "on sale" again? Great computer irritating pricing and lineup spec decisions.

Does the Legion have an OLED display?

No? Ok.

You still get 80 to 90% the performance the average machine with this chip. But I agree if you want to squeeze out every last bit of performance potential then this thin-and-light low TDP design makes no sense. It's more like a Mabook Pro competitor that just so happens to also be really good at gaming.

Really good? The 4080 kills the 4070, which is a minor upgrade and poor value from the 4060.

Yeah, the Timespy graphics score running in turbo mode of the 4070 model is 11891 whereas the 4080 model gets 13249. It's clear the 4070 model is running unconstrained by TDP while the 4080 model is constrained. It gets 80% of the score of Alienware x16 R1 4080 with 175 watt TDP but it's also clear that the TDP limitations here are preventing the majority of the performance benefit of the 4080 upgrade. I think the 4080 upgrade is still worthwhile if you care about VRAM or performance per watt (and associated heat / noise), both of which are better. The benefits of the 4080 will be higher outside of turbo mode for those reasons. Better efficiency means better performance without fans ramped up to max.
