It doesn't matter if the "managers of caught onto it". It's not breaking any policy and is explicitly written on the receipt the return value of each individual item. Sure manager may go rogue and refuse to take the return, but they could also refuse to honor a genuine sale price too. This is not something that is going on unnoticed by HD corporate. They specifically enable it by TELLING YOU ON THE RECEIPT the value of each item. That is true for in-store receipts as well as online receipts. DeWalt pays for the free gifts, not HD. HD has clearly come to the conclusion that selling these items prorated and allowing individual returns increases turnover and maximizes their profits. It is naive to think that a company making over $150B in sales a year with over $15B in earnings, would not notice this practice going on when they have continuously offered it for the last decade with multiple BOGO sales from multiple manufacturers at any time. And, again, if they didn't know it was going on, how could they have specifically programmed their IT infrastructure to enable it, not just to passively permit it.

These prorated deals are not hacks in the sense of using an unforeseen loop but they are Honest And Completely Kosher deals!
Now this post has gone Frontpage, you need to select the "Original Post" drop down to see the prorate price breakdowns. I have dupiicated them here:

The following price out at $85.20 for the tool and $113.80 for the starter kit

XR 6-1/2" circular saw (DCS565B) [homedepot.com]

The following price out at $88.38 for the tool and $110.62 for the starter kit

Brushless blower (DBBL722B) [homedepot.com]

The following price out at $94.24 for the tool and $104.76 for the starter ki

FLEXVOLT 6Ah (DCB609) [homedepot.com]
XR screw gun (DCF630B) [homedepot.com]
XR rotary drywall cut-out tool (DCE555B) [homedepot.com]

The following price out at $99.50 for the tool and $99.50 for the starter kit

XR impact driver (DCF860B) [homedepot.com]
XR angle grinder (DCG405B) [homedepot.com]
ATOMIC SDS drill (DCH172B) [homedepot.com]
XR reciprocating saw (DCS382B) [homedepot.com]

The following price out at $104.26 for the tool and $94.74 for the starter kit

XR jigsaw (DCS334B) [homedepot.com]
XR compact router (DCW600B) [homedepot.com]
XR 3-1/4" planer (DCP580B) [homedepot.com]
This 4Ah has been around for quite a few years. It's the "compact" version (DCB240). They have always offered the regular 4Ah (DCB204) alongside it in their line. The compact version uses 5 21700 cells in series in a single layer, whereas the DCB204 (and the 5Ah DCB205) are two in-parallel layers of 5 18650 cells in series. For a long time the DCB240 was my go-to battery because of its compact size, long runtime and reasonable current draw. However, even though they use 21700 cells, they still don't have the current of a DCB204/5 which have the two parallel layers of 18650.

FWIW, my current go-to battery is the POWERSTACK 1.7Ah (DCBP034) because of its even more compact size and decent power draw, since run time is often a lower priority for me.

Yes, it seems to have stopped working. The discount prices were showing up when I first saw it, but they're not working now. Hopefully just a temporary glitch.

Actually, none of the BOGOs seem to be working right now. I also can't get other DeWalt or Milwaukee deals to price out.

Once the site's working again, that planer is an amazing deal. I've never seen it at that price before ($91.39). If you're thinking about it, I would jump on it quickly because it is on a temporary sale in addition to the BOGO, which bring the prorated price down.

I noticed it wasn't working for a Milwaukee deal this morning, HD must have broken something on their site...

The temporary pricing on the planer ended and so it's base price is now $219, putting its prorated price at $104.26.

Same thing with the reciprocating saw (sale price was $149, now back to $199) and so its prorated price is now $99.50.

I've updated these prices in the original post.

As long as you don't call it a "hack."
