$100 off $500 with AMEX offers. YMMV. Makes this very slick.

Definitely different monitors targeted at different uses. The LGgn850 is targeted at mixed uses with good gaming performance. The Alienware is a gaming target. If you're buying for gaming, go with the Alienware. If you're just looking for good value for mixed use and aren't willing to pay a few hundred more for it, you're probably not going to maximize the Alienware anyway, but the Alienware is better if you want a better gaming set up. Ignoring price I personally would always pick the Alienware and have done so in nearly the same scenario.

RTINGS says:

"If you want the best gaming performance, the Dell Alienware AW3423DW is a better choice than the LG 34GN850-B. The Dell looks better in dark rooms, delivers a better HDR experience, and has better motion handling. The LG does have better text clarity, so if that's important to you, consider this monitor instead."

I had the LG34gn850-B and it died on me twice (was able to warranty it first time, no luck second time). It gave me nothing but issues. Dead pixels, dead panel, randomly stopped working. I thought I was going crazy I've never had monitor issues having built computers for 25+ years. It was early on production so maybe that's ironed out, but it was not fun. I ended up upgrading to an Alienware a few years ago (AW3821DW) and I've been very happy. This monitor listed is the successor to the one I use right now (and love). I would 100 times out of 100 go this Alienware over LGgn850-B based on that experience (it's not fun to ship back a monitor for repairs/warranty). I can't speak to the OLED text clarity though, since my panel is IPS.

Alienware is slightly bigger and heavier, but the build quality is way better and the atrocious ergonomics on the LG are also a (hindsight) red flag for me.

If you've never checked out RTINGS you should - it's a great website for tech reviews.

Well, that's a fancy IPS screen.

This is an OLED.

That's the difference, all the OLED vs IPS trade offs apply.

I did Google, but no one stated that this is for new accounts. On R there is only 5% back, not 10%. Thank you for your kind help though.

If you look at the details on that CB site, it says 4% for monitors, so not sure where people are seeing 10%.

I bought a used AW3418 off fb marketplace for $250 to stack with my AW3418. It's definitely not as good as this one but keep your eyes open. They might be able to go as cheap as $200 by next year.

Good deal though!

Nice. Unfortunately (for me), Dell Rewards points only last 4 months... Maybe something else good will pop up for Black Friday. Just something to consider for others who may be on the fence.

How is text clarity on this? Owned Samsung 49 oled and it is terrible
Text clarity will depend on the resolution you use and the monitors PPI. Can't see how a Samsung 49 oled would have text clarity issues if using the native resolution. Maybe the sharpness needs to be adjusted on the monitors settings

It's due to the way the subpixels are arranged on most OLED panels. A lot of them use a pentile arrangement which is noticeably fuzzy compared to a a full RGB stripe for text clarity.

Great info thanks! First time I've ever heard of that or complaints about text clarity on OLEDs

If you don't mind me asking, what's your main use case for your monitor? I'm debating between these 2 monitors, and for me the difference is around $400 out of pocket.

I'm looking to use either monitor mainly for work and to try my PS5/ROG Ally on it. I like the idea of an ultrawide for work but I've never really used one. But I also like that the 32" is 4k/240hz. I understand that it's overkill for my intentions, so I'm leaning towards the cheaper ultrawide. But your comment gave me pause.

I appreciate any input you or anyone else are willing to provide.

Doesn't look to be the gsync version of this monitor. Am I missing that? Gsync is important for anyone with an nvidia card. IMO gsync > freesync for those users.
Correct the DWF doesn't have a Gsync module but the adaptive sync works fine with any modern Nvidia card.

ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Here's the OLED timeline for upcoming generations in the attached image. I personally went with a 32" OLED 4K for my PS5 as it doesn't really like 1440p. 34" and 39" 2160p OLED's are still a year out.
Can you elaborate on how the PS5 doesn't really like 1440p? It supports 1440p as of a couple of years ago, doesn't it? I have mine connected to my tv so I don't think I've personally experienced 1440p resolution from my PS5.

The persons is probably not knowledgeable. It rated high on rtings for console play. And like you said the ps5 supports 1440p.
