When they refund you TIV they refund tax also. They adjust TIV with phone price and recalculate tax and refund the amount. Ideally the refund will be more than TIV.

this is a downgrade
Quite the opposite.

They took the phone after you transferred from the old phone to the new phone. They factory reset it right there & you'll get a refund couple days later

It's the ecosystem so it's irrelevant who makes the screen. Stop being a shill to brands. Use what you like.

Sounds like a great upgrade
Androids are far superior for the flexibility of a product. Apple forces you to play games on the ecosystem and have to hack your phone just to get messages transferred over when it should be open. They will not play on a level playing field because they'll get beat so they try to play proprietary and then they get to put in a USBC connection. People are paying 50% to twice as much more for Apple top tier just to say they have it. I've worked with both devices would never own an iPhone for the control they have on their ecosystem.

finally got refunded today

ended up side/down grading from a S23U to S24+ for $41 after everything

for comparison, the best i could muster through samsung's pre-order deals for the S24+, including my S23U trade in, was $359, +tax on the full price of the phone, which would have totaled $440 or so

the S24+ feels much better in hand, but i was not aware that the anti reflective glass was on the Ultra only

also i immediately missed the ultras 10x optical / 100x digital zoom.. the S24+ only does 3x optical, 30x digital. say bye to airplane pictures
Why would you downgrade to an inferior device? , and they still charged you $41? 🤦 ♂️, you should have gone with the S24 Ultra or wait about 2 months for the S25 Ultra 😒

I have S23 Ultra, wife has S24U.

I wouldn't spend a single penny to "upgrade" from my phone to hers.

The idea of turning in my phone for a plus is comical. Samsung better pay me $300 for that transaction.

Overall, this is a lateral move (regarding the 13 Pro Max). Makes sense if you want to get out of the Apple ecosystem, and into Android, but that's the only compelling use case.

I ordered the s24 Ultra online for pickup later today last night. Chatted today for the Amazon price match & they happily did it.
Did you price match before you pick up the phone? I already traded in my phone and picked it up and did online chat but the online chat support said the system won't let them price match because of the trade in Confused

I did my trade in inside the store on Friday night. I bought the 256 gb purple S24 Ultra (traded in my S22 Ultra). Before I did the trade in, I asked an assistant manager if they could price match Amazon who was selling that exact phone for around $1028 vs Best Buy's price of $1099.

He said he could do it but he let me watch the kiosk whereby as soon as he put in the Samsung coupon for the trade, the price went from $1028 back up to $1099. Their system simply won't allow it.

I called Bestbuy.com for a price adjustment but they told me the same thing, they can't do a price match when there is a trade in involved.

So, that kind of sucks but it was still a great deal, especially compared to the the crappy T-Mobile deals currently if you're on an older grandfathered plan.

Net price after the ($700 trade allowance) was $400 plus $53 sales tax = $453.

T-mobile would be roughly $1,094 after sales tax and after waiting 24 months to get all of the bill credits in. Horrible deal through T-Mobile (unless you have their most expensive plans).

I think the price of the phone outright may still go down towards Black Friday but I'm not sure we'll see these trade in values again at Best Buy.

If you're willing to send your phone into Samsung to do a trade in (which I was extremely nervous about doing), then there will still be some good deals going forward.

What's your reasons for preferring S23U over S24U?

I don't prefer one over the other, it's just that in every practical manner, they are the same phone.

The S21 and 22 series both had kind of dogbreath chipsets, but the S23 chip is REAL good. Going from an S23 to an S24 is strictly a lateral move, minus some enhanced telephoto capabilities in the 5X-9.9X zoom range for the S24U.
