Disk bottom, this is perfect for a college student or someone on an extreme budget but otherwise I would hold out for a clad set. Costco typically has clad sets for $100-200 that are very good quality.

Can you give me an example of what to look for at Costco at what price?

I got this set a few years back and it's perfectly fine clad stainless.

There are similar sets from other brands that are likely equally as good. A good clad stainless steel pan or pot should last a long time.

At $160 (maybe lower in store), is that a good price?

I would say so. These pieces should last you 10+ years easily and I have found the quality is close to on par with the All-Clad brand which can easily run you $100+ PER pan/pot.
At the end of the day it comes down to how much you cook and if you want to get used to stainless steel. But a clad stainless steel pan is substantially better than a disk bottom stainless pan. The issue with disk bottom pans is you can easily get burning around the bottom edge as there is aluminum layer on the sides to disperse heat. For a soup it's no big deal but if you are searing items or cooking without a ton of liquid on high heat it's an issue.
