This is a very cool running drive. Doesn't throttle much.

These are not the same as the highly rated drives as the PA*B* drives lost their dram. I haven't been able to find reviews of the dramless version.

Ah, the $119 is the Prime price. Non-Prime accounts, it is $139.

Yeah, this is $10 cheaper than when I bought mine a year and a half ago. I wasn't sure things had "recovered" to the point they'd be cheaper…

But then I checked and this is a different product entirely.

I was gonna whole-heartedly recommend it before I realize that.

Whats the reliability of this brand? I'm unfamiliar with Nexstorage. I have a ton of media that I want to move off of standard SATA disks, but don't want to store my precious memories on something that won't work in a few months. Won't be constantly reading/writing to it, just looking for long-term storage. Also, any recommendations on an enclosure for this?

Hold. It was $100 near BF last year (hopefully inflation/corporate greed doesn't raise the price)

FWIW, I bought a 4tb from Nextorage (newegg), and it didn't even last 9 months. The controller died, so every block was reporting as corrupted, if it even was able to get that far. Just depended on if it started that attempt or not.

Nextorage was great in handling it though. I did all the SMART checks, block checks, recovery software, etc, and sent them the pictures with my errors. The next email was them just acknowledging the issue and processed the return through Newegg, even providing a return shipping label. They didn't offer to replace it, just straight return. Kind of sucks because I got a really good deal on it, but I opted not to test my luck again and just went Western Digital.

I believe Nextorage began as a partnership between Phison and Sony, to make drives for the PS5. Phison ended up acquiring the whole thing. Phison is one of the major manufacturers of SSD controllers. I think they also manufacture many of the drives that get sold under various names. They're definitely not some no-name brand. Regardless of what brand/model you get, it's essential to have multiple backups of important data. I would strongly advise at least one copy not be kept on anything flash-based.

I've been running the 2GB DDR4 DRAM version since December 2022 and I'm very satisfied. This was the result with a i3-12100 bottlenecking it.

This is very similar to the Seagate Firecuda 530. Micron NAND with Phison E18 controller, so reputable components.
