why put it outdoor? will it last as long as those indoor?
Indoor is generally more ideal but outdoor can be more beneficial in some cases. Depending on current setup, the extra plumbing to tie it in from outside can be cheaper/faster/easier than changing up venting, reworking gas lines if the current configuration can't support the high BTU's of tankless, less potential for water damage from some failure if the current heater is in a finished space or attic, all that sort of stuff. The only real bad is it's not ideal for colder climates.

In warmer weather areas, it's mostly these outdoor unit that are installed. I'm in Florida and 3 of the 5 houses on our block have outdoor tankless water heaters.
