Right, but still it meets GF-6A / SPI SP, so should be fine.

I had bad experience with this oil. My oil consumption increased so bad that I started losing a quart in less than 1000 miles. I am going back to Kirkland or mobil 1

Looks to be an error. It won't even allow you to add to the cart now.

It should be fine for You. Costco recently had the 5 quarts of Full synth for $15 a jug, so it's not that much more for the Good Stuff.

My neighbor has the same V6 in his Honda as I do. When his Catalytic converters went bad, it cost over $2K to get them replaced. He used Dino oil though, so he did save $5 on his oil changes.....

how would engine oil affect Cats?

That sounds more like an engine issue. Like the poster above talking about oil consumption.

Engine oils have additives that, when burned/consumed, can poison catalysts (think sulfur and phosphorous). These additives are used to prevent/mitigate/lessen engine wear so that the oil does it's job. However, this oil meets the specs as outlined by a previous poster. That means that the additives in it either have those "bad actors" removed to prevent catalyst deactivation OR they're at low enough levels that it would take many, many miles (think 100k) for them to build up and be an issue. Even then, the catalyst would still be effective "enough."

You are right though that this anecdote sounds like an engine issue. If you have a bad ring pack, or a messed up PCV system (including the EGR in this one), you can have excessive oil consumption. That would poison the catalyst. At that point, you'll have other issues to worry about besides a bad cat.

"Dino" oil or not, if it meets the specs and it's the visc grade your car calls for, you're good to go.

EDIT: IN case we have another "Synthetic or nothing" argument, know that there was a court case involving the definition of "Synthetic" and it was determined that it was more branding/marketing than anything. Here's a synopsis: https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums...wn.301956/

There must be something else going on with his V6 Honda. I also have one and have not had any problems until now at over 180k just replaced drive axles, wheel bearing and some oil leaks which are a result of owner error (such as trailering another car for over 1000 miles over some mountains). The engine still runs smoooooth, no oil burning. If you go to the Honda Odyssey forum some of those minivans are hitting 300, 400 and even 500,000 miles. I'm sure they are fixing things here and there but the V6 Honda engine is bullet proof for most people.woot

I've only used the cheapest recommended oil I could find. Remember in the early 2000's you could get motor oil for free after rebate and gasoline was only $1.25 a gallon?

Spot on. The V6 honda is a stellar motor. The transmissions in some yrs were a bit suspect, but...the motor A+
