I have a 12" dual bevel Dewalt. Not sure if it's this exact model. It's easy to change the blade

Changing blade is easy. I bought a Freud for fine cut but kept the DeWalt blade to cut framing lumber.

However, I'm not sure if this deal is good for everyone. I have the exact same saw and stand bought 6 years ago for 1/2 the price at HD. It was a deal I couldn't refuse. I'm just a diyer but I own rental properties. So, I do work around the house a little more than usual.

The saw is great but it's huge and really heavy. I set it up in the basement and it has never seen daylight again. Even when I need to work on my own deck, I'd rather grab my old 10" miter saw with a folding stand to set it up in the backyard. There is no way I will take this giant to the rentals.

I totally agree with all of your comments. I have a Freud blade for most work, and I swap in the Dewalt for framing lumber (like doing a fence a few weeks ago).

This is a "good" price for it, but you're going to really need/want a 12". I bought the 779 with the smaller "compact" stand (looks like it's on sale for $499 now too [homedepot.com], I think I paid $450 before coupon at the start of this 2024), as I store the saw on a shelf and the stand separately from it in a space between shelving units. I wish I had a basement or a dedicated wood shop...

The saw is heavy and sucks to carry around. The HD product description says 68lbs for the saw itself, I assume that includes packaging, but I bet it weighs 60lbs and it's large which makes it feel way heavier than its weight. Carrying it around the garage isn't too bad, but carrying it up around my house to rebuild a fence? That sucked. And we're only talking maybe 100ft of walking (up a decent hill).

Capacity wise, I doubt I'll ever need the 12". I have an upcoming project where I'll be cutting some wider planks, but I could really easily flip them over and finish the cut if I had a 10". The reason I went with the 12 was because of the quality and price: a 10" dual bevel slider was more expensive, the Bosch and Makita are another $200 for the bare saw. I trolled FB and CL for months and never saw a quality 10" slider come up, but a number of 12's for basically no discount.

Oh, an aside, the dust collection on the 779/780 freaking sucks. A friend and I both run this collector boot and it helps a lot (I have no association with this store, I just use their kit). https://shopnationstore.com/produ...1283407082

Looks like the bare saw, no stand, is available for $399 [homedepot.com]. I'd opt for it with a stand, but for my use, the non-roller stand is easier for storage. If I had a bigger garage or shop, the roller would be better.

The rubber chute is slick. I've never seen it before. The design makes sense It is way way better than the tent or giant plywood hood I have seen online. However, $55 + tax + S&H seems pretty steep. I'm wondering if I can DIY a poor man version.

I used to believe investing in the biggest and best miter saw you can find would be a smart move to avoid future upgrades.I started with a 7.5" miter saw, but honestly, it was terrible. It constantly went out of square after almost every cut. Next, I purchased a 10" Skil miter saw during a Black Friday sale, but the lock nut for the blade would come loose after about ten cuts. Frustrated, I finally bought the DeWalt when it was on sale, paying around $300 including the stand. Looking back, I realize I should have just bought the best 10" miter saw from the beginning. Well, you can never have too many tools until you run out of space!

I bet you can DIY it. He also sells the print files for...$15?

I had the same experience with a 7.5" miter which led me to the 12" (paying another ~$100 over what you did), but stopping at a 10" would likely have been best for me, too...

Blade is easy to change. I move this from my shed and back with ease. Just finished replacing my 11x30 deck using this saw. Toll easily pays for itself with the price of labor these days.
