With that said, $10 is a pretty low barrier for entry to see if any of it appeals to you.
It is nothing like the mainline games. The gameplay revolves around leveling up villagers by wandering around a few small zones to obtain insects, fruits, and materials. As you level up the villagers, it contributes to your player level.
I think the closest the game gets to the regular titles is to happy home designer. You can't customize the actual map, you can only customize your campsite and your RV.
The original pocket camp game was designed as a typical mobile game where you do a couple fetch quests every day and slowly make progress, using money to speed things up.
