Watched an interesting "documentary" on YouTube yesterday about how Gore-Tex gear is shedding PFAS.

PFAS has been deemed as unsafe at any level as once its in your bloodstream, it never goes away. The guy proved it in my opinion with some tests.
They are now finally making a PFAS-Free material, (only after REI Co-op (one of the largests outdoor gear retailers) has refused to carry regular Gore-Tex anymore. So we might be seeing lots of their gear going on sale as they are hopefully going to phase most of the cancerous stuff out as they transition. But there will always be other outdoor companies that don't care and will carry it, so it might never get phased out.

If you don't care about having super cancerous FOREVER chemicals in your blood, then thats fine, but I felt compelled to warn the community.

I am a skeptic by nature, so my initial reaction is - why are we not seeing a rash of cancer cases among the outdoor community? Also, wouldn't places like the PNW have very elevated cancer numbers?

That said, if am ever in a situation where I think to myself, man I'm glad my sleeping bag is 100% waterproof, then things in my life have gone way, way wrong. 😂

It's a way bigger risk to your life when you are at 0F with a soaking wet sleeping bag.

Interesting... after my comments, the name Gore-Tex and the term waterproof has now been removed from the Title in the post by the OP...
The video I watched on YT also did say many other outdoor gear companies are using PFAS on their products as well, so not sure why this title said Gore-Tex and Water-Proof, & now suddenly it doesn't, but if my comments caused you concern, you may want to look into why they had that name on the post in the first place.
This company might just be one of the ones using a generic version of PFAS on all of their water resistant gear, and also have some of their more expensive gear that actually teams up with Gore-Tex to make it more appealing? Or possibly it was just a mistake from the get go.
I obviously have no clue and would just caution you to look further into it if you care.

Went in yesterday when another OP posted this same deal and finally pulled the trigger on a nice rollerboard carry-on luggage for the cheapest I've ever seen it, along with several heavily discounted shoulder and waist fanny pack things that will be nice stocking stuffers. Got the deal alert this morning for this post, which is for the same sale, and all the items I bought yesterday are gone!! Nice job, SD'ers!

Don't need and tents or sleeping bags or camping gear this time around as those were bought for cheap during this same sale several years ago. I love all MHW stuff and SD feeds my addiction!

Just a reminder: If you get any Gore-Tex stuff, remember to wear it or sleep inside it and DO NOT EAT IT.

For those of you wondering about the relationship between Gore-Tex and PFAS chemicals, here are the details. Gore-Tex and PFAS have a complex relationship. Traditionally, Gore-Tex products have used PFAS chemicals, also known as "forever chemicals," to achieve their waterproof and stain-resistant properties. However, due to growing concerns about the environmental and health impacts of PFAS, Gore has been working to reduce their use.
Here's a breakdown of the key points:
* Traditional Gore-Tex: Historically, Gore-Tex products have used PFAS in the form of a durable water repellent (DWR) coating. This coating helps water bead up and roll off the fabric.
* PFAS Concerns: PFAS are persistent pollutants that don't break down easily in the environment. They can accumulate in the human body and have been linked to various health issues.
* Gore's Efforts: In response to these concerns, Gore has developed a new PFAS-free membrane technology called ePE. This technology provides the same waterproof and breathable properties as traditional Gore-Tex but without the use of PFAS in the membrane itself.
* Ongoing Challenges: While the new ePE membrane is a significant step forward, Gore-Tex products may still contain PFAS in other components, such as the DWR coating. Gore is working to phase out PFAS from all its products but has not yet set a specific timeline for complete elimination.
It's important to note that not all Gore-Tex products are currently PFAS-free. Consumers should look for products labeled as "PFAS-free" or "PFC-free" to ensure they are purchasing products that do not contain these chemicals.
Overall, Gore-Tex's commitment to reducing PFAS use is a positive development. However, it's important to stay informed about the latest information and make informed choices when purchasing Gore-Tex products.

I am always amazed that people choose ignorance when information is so easily accessible. I do not need a long post. PFAS like goretex accumulate throughout our lives. They disrupt our bodies more than just cancer. Boomers were not born with pfas we are now so yes cancer is and will increase. Wake up, ignorance is not a good look.

I'm looking for a new backpacking bag. I'm a 3 season guy. My current Kelty just isn't warm enough I figure its just worn out. I'm expecting to see a low of probably 25 degrees. Any of these a good fit for my needs?
