Community is basically dead on l4d. L4d2 still has people playing.
I arrived way late to the L4D party (like my Steam profile says I only 70 minutes or so logged into L4D1). My memory, though, is that this is because you could essentially play all of the L4D1 campaigns inside of L4D2's engine with QoL improvements, there was really no reason to go back to L4D1 after that. I wonder if that's why.
I have both but do not remember playing 2. The scenes on the game page do not look familiar. I guess I will have to check it out. I did prefer the Half Life games though.
If I recall right, L4D2 was very much L4D1 remastered. IE most, if not all, of the original levels from 1 are in 2.
Embarrassing that I never played this but I generally skew to single-player games and always thought this was multiplayer only. Reading the comments, can I play through the campaigns of L4D1 & 2 by myself on steam deck by just buying L4D2?

I don't have a steam deck, but this game can definitely be played single player and all of the levels of L4D1 are available on L4D2. I played both from the get go and there is little reason to play L4D1 other than nostalgia (no melee weapons in L4D1 is the difference).
Excellent game! Go online, play, get mods and maps. New stuff constantly being created.
I've got thousands of hours into it.. no longer play due to non-computer related injuries to my hands however.. miss the game and had a great group we'd play on-line a few times a week.
