Mmm now there is a size I can get behind.... next up get it closer to the $50/TB price range.

And before anyone says it, yes I get it higher density chips are more expensive yadda yadda

I hope the budget brands (e.g. Silicon Power, TEAMGROUP) get in on 8TB drives too. I built an external RAID0 out of two SP 4TB drives last year just to get a fast 8TB drive for ~$600 (with enclosure). Would rather have gone with a single 8TB, but it was so much more expensive.

Heck yeah 4x4TB Samsung 990 Pro right now and I am almost out of space.
Wont bite on this one, but shows that other brands/models will be just around the corner.

P.S. "almost out of space" meaning my local fast speed storage for photo/video editing and other projects I do have a NAS for my major storage needs.

Just take out the 4TB and put them in an enclosure for an awesome portable SSD, or add in an expander card for additional drives and keep the old ones.

Its not so much as that theyre budget brands every brand has a budget line of what are Typically QLC drives cause QLC is a higher capacity but lower performing technology. All these brands also carry higher end TLC/MLC drives with varying levels of performance tiers in their controllers as well.

Sony should update the PS5 to allow for something bigger than the 4TB. I would gotten this in a heartbeat.
Edit: just found out that PS5 is compatible up to 8TB.

Much better than the $2200 that Apple fleeces their customers with.

Good thing there's no moving parts to worry as much.

I spent $1,200 on the Sabrent 8TB a few months ago.

8TB at 7000/6000 R/W for $650 is insane. I needed mine for a project, so I can't say I regret it, but this is a very good price and I would jump on this if I didn't already have one.

If it's just your C drive who cares. You should never store critical data in one place at one time.

All of my media is backed up on both a RAID10 and RAID5. Losing data on a single disk is already foolish, and even more foolish for you to hate on a disk size because it *might* fail.

I'm in the exact same situation (even use my pc for the same purpose), but haven't educated myself on expander cards. Are they just as fast as the direct port on my mobo? Any specific expansion card you recommend?

Gonna have to put on a fresh diaper when they release a 32TB drive in a couple years. 😉
