I consider myself a sunglasses connoisseur Maui Jim's are my go to for my driving commute to work i also like my Serengeti's for driving. I believe everyone should have at least 3-5 pairs of sunglasses

1. Driving sunglasses, I recommend Maui Jim or Serengeti.

2. Active sports sunglasses Running, Cycling, baseball, etc. I recommend Oakley's i have the Sutro lite and love them they are my favorite pair and i wear them almost everyday.

3. Beach/fishing sunglasses I recommend Costa. Also the sunglasses gotta be polarized.

4. Everyone needs to own at least one pair of aviators I recommend Randolph's

5. If you have the money for it a luxury pair of sunglasses only brands i recommend for luxury are Cartier and Jaques Marie Mage.

Best sunglasses I've owned but I think Costco usually sells them around this price.

Jomashop is not an authorized retailer. They are known mostly for grey market watches. With that as background, it makes sense that the prices would be around the same as you'd find from grey market sellers on eBay, or a little higher, which is what these prices represent.

FWIW Maui Jim has a big counterfeit goods problem, so that's something you have to watch out for.

They aren't always easy to spot but at least make sure that the style/frame color/lens color combination is one that Maui Jim offers on their own site.

Thanks for the heads up. I just checked and they have a limited selection but their prices run from 102.99 to 114.99. Looks like most lenses they have are actual glass too, while the cheaper ones through Jomashop are mostly plastic.

With that said, I ordered a pair through Jomashop. The selection through Costco, 11 pairs total, was too limited.

Yeah, I like to get a pair from Costco in the spring and this is usually around their price. As has been said the Costco selection is very limited but they add new ones every once in a while.

...and if anything goes wrong, Costco got your back, while Jomashop will use any excuse to avoid remedying the situation.

I own Rayban, Serengetti and MJ ...the MJ is my daily wear cos of the glass lens and the optics are one of the best and far better than Rayban. Very few brands now that still make glass lens and MJ (and serengetti) are the few.

Bought mine from Sunglass hut in Las Vegas outlet and they had a 20% off sale and waived taxes.

One of the few brands Luxottica hasn't ruined, and a great selection! Thanks

Damn.. Just checked and you're right. Costco isn't an authorized retailer either although they have a much better return policy than Jomashop.

I've had my Kamis for 5.5 years now. They're great.

Seems they don't sell them new anymore on authorized retailer sites.

Wrote Maui Jim's to ask re authorized retailers
TLDR costco stock is legit, but will not be stocking it in the future

"Costco was an authorized retailer of Maui Jim sunglasses; they carried our discontinued styles. As of now, Costco will no longer be selling Maui Jim sunglasses. If you did purchase a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses, rest assure that they are an authentic pair of Maui Jim sunglasses."

Well, that explains why Costco never had the Lighthouse (Maui Jim Lighthouse are far and away my favorite sunglasses)

Nice writeup, I like the way you framed up the various use cases. One more I'd throw in there is "travel/beater" sunglasses. Being that sunglasses are small and (usually) delicate, it's pretty easy for them to get broken or lost; it's nice to have a cheaper pair or two to use when you're traveling, doing active stuff, etc where you don't have to have to stress about potentially losing or breaking them like you would with a $300 pair.
Personally I like the brand "Sungait" for this use case, they've got a decent amount of styles on available on Amazon for very reasonable prices with generally good reviews. They've also got a solid warranty and some reviews have mentioned that they have even gotten accidental damage covered (I haven't personally tested this though).

These are legit. Bought a pair and had to send them in for service. Maui Jim replaced the frame and arms for $14
