tl;dr—0.2°C is too high of a swing to make clinical decisions. Noncontact meters are good for prescreening, but not making medical decisions.

There are a few variables that result in inaccurate readings:
1. Humidity/sweat from the environment/on the pt.
2. The degree at which the IR thermometer is used to point at the temporal artery (forehead area)
3. The environmental temperature of the room/area - cold environments will lead to colder readings, hot environment, hotter readings.
4. Other things that I forget but this is a slickdeals comment so I'm done.
So yeah, they're good for screening but not for clinical settings/decision making based off of these IR thermometers.
