For all those talking about the oil leaking, it does leak everything out under certain circumstances. I was frustrated with mine when I stored it upright (imagine holding the saw with two hands and placing it on the ground in that orientation). You would think that it should be stored like this, but my chainsaw leaked everywhere. When I started storing mine on its side so that you can see the oil fill cap on top, it stopped leaking like a sieve! Again, try storing it on its side so that the oil fill cap is facing upward as if you were filling it with oil.

One of the cheapest ways to get a battery and charger is to buy a kit with an impact [homedepot.com] or drill [homedepot.com] for $99 which has a 2Ah battery and a charger.

However, you probably are going to be wanting a 4Ah battery for the chainsaw. You can pick up a 4Ah compact battery [homedepot.com] for $59. At that point you're best off looking for a charger on Facebook Marketplace.

Another alternative would be a 3Ah battery and charger [homedepot.com] for $99. Although, you could get two 3Ah [homedepot.com] without a charger for the same price and pick up a charger from Marketplace.

Otherwise, there are several deals at the moment that have multiple batteries but they would be much more out of pocket.

Yes? No? Sorta?

I filled up the oil and immediately took apart a decent sized tree. That took just a little bit more than a 4Ah pack, so kinda like 1 tank of gas on the Stihl.

When I was done with that job, was a little surprised to see it was out of oil. It just used it on that job. Since it was 'dry' I put it away and for this saw I'm just doing that. Adding oil when I grab a battery for a job.

So no issues at all, but it's not the Stihl where you can get away with leaving oil in a year at a time.

I just grabbed one, but I'm slightly concerned about batteries. I have a few 5ah, both XR and stacks, but will it be inconvenient enough switching them out that I'll want to invest in a larger size? I missed out on the 8" + 8ah deal from Acme the other day, and it was the battery that did it for me.

Mine leaks really bad. I have to make sure it's completely empty after every use otherwise there is a puddle underneath it by the next morning. Great little chainsaw but yeah bummed about the leak.

I am curious about this myself.

I've had one of these saws for about six years now and had to convert a tool box into a storage case for the saw, because it'll drain every drop of bar oil out of it and I was sick of the mess.

Question - my HD has the echo eFORCE 12 in. 56V X Series Cordless Battery Top Handle Chainsaw with 2.5Ah Battery and Rapid Charger for sub 250 right now. I have a few DEWALT 20v batteries so I'm tempted to go with the dewalt. Just have no idea if the echo is that much better at its retail/non discount price. Would this dewalt saw be a better buy than investing in the echo system? I need to take down ~ 12 elms that are probably 10" thick.

Also hearing about the leaks which match my experience with my dewalt pole saw.

Interesting. I wonder if the oil leaking problem is common in Dewalt chainsaws. I have a pole saw that I just used yesterday that was completely dry.

From everything I've read, a 5Ah will give you 30-60 min of cutting time. Of course, there are many factors that will affect that number, but if you have multiple 5Ah batteries, then I would think you should be fine for most use cases.
