Great! I bought this model for my daughter to learn drums and they sound high quality for the price, whether using headphones or plugging into a speaker. Don't expect Roland V-Drums, but for what you're getting, you have a great reliable kit to practice and improve on. Lots of cool features. I also plug it into my computer and use it to trigger/record midi drums for songs.
I've been looking for a cheap e-kit, everything looks good up top, but that kick set up looks awful. No upgradability to double bass and the pedals appear to be plastic, if this had an actual pad for the kick it'd be a no-brainer, but I've already broken enough plastic pedals to learn my lesson.
Also this kit was never worth $330, with the Alesis Nitro Max at $400 and the Donner DED-200 regularly at $360, this is a $250 kit at best. $180 isn't bad for beginners who aren't sure if they'll click with it or not.

Any thoughts on how this is for beginners?

Based on the description, this would be better. These are 8" with a dual zone snare. The Costco Alesis is the same as the "kids" kit. Single zone 6". The Alesis is tiny meant for 10 year olds.
im tempted, im a bass player who likes to play drums. have had a basic yamaha elec kit for year but it has the hard rubber pads. wanted to swap to mesh.
Does anyone know if this includes sticks? I see other sets that specifically state the sticks included, but nothing on this one?Edit: I guess I'll find out when it gets here.
Good question. According to a review, he/she said "...The price can't be beat, and this package includes everything you need to play right away, even a set of sticks!..."
Say I'm willing to spend up to $300 to fool around with digital drums.
Should I get this or is there something that's a step up that I should look at? Happy to look at used kits too (but I'm in a small market so don't expect to see much on craigslist/marketplace)

From what I read (I'm no expert at all), anything under $500 is a "toy" ie for beginner or "see if you are really into this after a year".
I got the Titan 50 last year. I think there is absolutely fun to be had here at this price. This effectively replaced the plastic Rock Band drum kit for us.
Look into getting Clone Hero setup. I've still been "playing" for nearly a year (will be XMas).

The Alesis Nitro is the standard recommendation for a beginner drum set.
The Titan 50 I think is very similar if one or the other is on sale. Both of these have a larger snare drum and a more real-feeling kick tower.

Yeah, I have a friend whose kid is in drum lessons and his teacher recommended the Nitro kit. Personally, I really dislike the drum sounds from the budget Alesis kits. They're just way too electronic/drum machine sounding to me.
My case is probably really different from most, since I'm primarily a guitarist who has been playing my drummers' kits for decades. To the point which I eventually bought my own acoustic kit for the studio. I've also owned a couple of Roland kits (TD-11). My daughter is now interested in playing drums, so I'm back in the market for an e-kit. Being a kid, she really likes the look of the Titan 70, and I like the sounds from it. It also sits low enough for her to play comfortably. But it has its quirks. Also, GC had them for sale last year at $629. I'm not sure they're going to go back to that price again. On the other hand, used Roland kits are going for around the same price and they're much better (they also hold their value). So I'm torn.
