I have a question. Is 30 series irrelevant nowadays? Mainly referring to 3090s

As a 3080Ti 12GB owner playing Black Ops 6 on a 4K 144hz Oled in my livingroom , i'm chomping at the bit for upgrade to 5000 series even though i can still play anything well enough as a whole ( 4070/4070Ti rasterization range without Frame Gen) . The performance drop between MW3 and BO6 i feel was substantial , and its likely going to further compound next year. PC is never optimized as well as console, and now with the PS5 Pro giving 13+Gb of memory to developers and supporting FSR/Frame Gen...going to need more VRAM for sure.

This card tempts me at this price, but so does a Refurb 7900XTX 24GB at Microcenter for $799....hmnn
I'm gameplanning a SFF Fractal Ridge build and weighing the AM5 CPU to go along with my 3080Ti until we see the 50 series/8000 series benchmarks and options after CES. I think i should see a notable improvement fps wise on my 3080Ti coming from a 11700k as i wait on a replacement for it.

At the listed MSRP, I'd agree with you. But for $730 you get about 80% of the performance a little under 75% of the price. It's a pretty good deal for a very good GPU.

Personally, I would wait a couple months to see how the 50 series and AMD RDNA 4 GPUs shake up the mid-range pricing.

Based on the most recent leaks, the 5070 will only have 12GB of VRAM, as others have mentioned. However, there's a good chance that AMD's 16GB offering will have similar overall performance to this for under $600 (I've seen rumors claiming the 8800XT will be on par with the 4080 for $499, but I'll believe it when I see it).
That's not a bad ratio: +20% better performance for roughly +25% pricing.

Usually, the top of the market is horribly overpriced where you pay +100% for +20% performance.

I'd personally go for the 4080 super between the two cards.

Did the math for you.

$1000-$730=$270
There's only a 15% performance difference according to TechPowerUp's scale. This is actually a good value from a FPS/$ absolutely.

Seriously, everybody is talking about waiting a couple of months for these, but Trump wants to add a 60% tariff and MSI makes these in China. We the consumers are paying those 60% tariffs to import them.

I'm tempted to just get these now.
That is at least a year off and may not be in electronics

This or 4090 or 5080? Price is not a problem.

There's a pretty good chance they will be electronics. He already increased it by 25% last time he was president specifically for GPUs / mother boards / screens.

What are the odds we get better deals closer to Black Friday. I really need to upgrade as I have a pc running a 1060, but I often buy something right before the price drops.

You do understand that tariffs are tools of negotiation, to make the other side adjust their own positions.
That only works if we have factory in the usa that makes gpu if this case we don't. most if not all gpu are made in China and no company is gonna eat the cost so they will pass it to the consumer which is us.
