I bought one of these in the cherry last year around August at this price. It's actually my most played guitar these days. The build quality is excellent and I had no fret sprout or any qc issues at all. Just fully redid the wiring and upgraded the caps and my pickups to the slash sd and this guitar is awesome.

... because it's no longer the guitar you bought.

Haha...true.

I've never liked the heavy paint on the Epiphone necks. Over the years I've learned all the tricks to make a Epiphone into a Gibson: neck sanding and refinishing, buffing off the heavy clearcoat on the body so the guitar can breathe, changing the bridge, changing the nut, and possibly doing Seymour Duncan pickups (depends on the model- some of the special Epi pickups are pretty damned good!).

$519 for a standard is a pretty good price in today's day and age. These used to retail at $499 a few years back and would go on sale for $399, but everything is more expensive now.

Idk, I think that depends. If you do not touch your guitar and take it to a luthier/tech for anything beyond tuning, yea that would cost as much as the guitar did lol.

How much would the equivalent Gibson cost? Because I think I'd rather just buy the Gibson that already came that way LOL.

Edit: Looks like probably 2-3k for the blue one. Ouch. I bet cheaper for the orange one because that's like a stereotypical les paul color. zzzzzzz

On the plus side, if you REALLY like K-On, it looks a lot like Yui's guitar! But Yui does have the real deal.

I really want to like these but the cherry burst is my least fav Gibson color and the blue looks more teal in person but the neck and back look amazing but the teal quilt - just don't know. I played one in store and it was amazingly similar to a plain top 60s Gibson.
