The TCL I bought from BF in 2021 has been bricked since mid 2023. A firmware update didn't work and it overrode the previous firmware. It was out of warranty so both TCL and Roku pointed fingers at each other to get the firmware. Seemed totally fixable since it's software related but I couldn't get the right help from either party.

Reminder. This does not have 120hz refresh rate.

Edit: Ignore the haters

Edit: Thank you

Ive had my Roku TCL for 5 years without problem. You usually only hear from the loud complainers.

That's not a refresh rate, that's a way they fake 120 with a refresh rate of 60.

I had a TCL that lasted years before I eventually sold it--still working. Great TV.
My dad laughed at it when he saw it and said, "What is that? A 'Tough Luck Charlie'?" I know that's TLC not TCL, but forever I've called it a "Tough Luck Charlie." You're welcome. Note: He's a Samsung guy.

its crazy seeing everyone's anecdotes with different brands - I've had a 43" google tv TCL that's lasted me 5 years.. got it at target using a deal from this site... right now I have a 4k fire stick connected bc I like the OS better but the google side still operates fine. $400 for a 75 inch is crazy lmao

I'm of the same thought. These concerns have been around for years, but I never hesitated on getting my TCL given the value for the money. The problems can be dealt with.

I forgot to mention that in addition to my firmware problem, my TCL also came from the factory with a loose wifi antenna connection. It struggled to hold a wifi connection even if I put the router right next to it. I eventually called for warranty and the repairman found that the antenna wasn't connected to the motherboard. Worked like a champ after that.

I hear you, but that's kind of TCL's thing. You can get a 75" for $375, but don't expect to be passing these down to your grandchildren or something.

That refers to a completely black frame between each of the 60 lit frames. It's a small benefit, but has nothing to do with 120Hz. It's confusing enough that they got sued over it.

I understand the basics but where it makes the most difference between 60 and 120 hz other than gaming?
Yes. And only a minority of games, and only on the most powerful consoles/PCs, with a 4k120 hdmi cable. The vast majority of people who waste money on 120hz panels never hook up anything capable of 120hz.

I've has 5 TCL TVs in the last 6 years, all failed. My last one died just last month, so I have no TV. I think a 75 inch would be perfect. You would have thought I'd learn my lesson.

In for one.

Can't speak to others. But already owning a 120 and 60 hz pair of TV's it's somewhat jarring to go back and forth. Going from the 60 to 120 makes everything seem like a soap opera. Even with regular shows and movies.

Extended warranties are a waste of money for most people. The companies make so much money on them which is why they're pushed so hard. Self insure instead with everything and you will come out ahead in the long run.
Normally I'd agree with you, but 2/4 of my TCLs failed with the same issue - so the $30 warranty was well worth it.

i like TCL the best because it's serviceable.

All TV's "die" eventually, and it's usually the backlight, but you can't find parts like you can for TCL.

LED backlight strips are a lottery, and crap out most often, and they cost under $10 on aliexpress!

My TCL 43s405 backlight has died 3 times in the last 7 years, and I replaced the backlights every time for under $10.
Having the backlight on max brightness and using 16 hours a day kills them fast.

2nd hand power supply boards are cheap on ebay, or you could just buy some capacitors and fix the board with some basic soldering skills.

You don't need an extra warranty.

Any info on how far apart the width of the legs are?
Don't know if it will fit on the console table.
Other TCL 75 inch TVs have 2 different positions for legs…could not find the info for this particular model
