Just as an fyi and a cautionary tale.... I bought one from ebay, supposed lab grown diamond from "shine bright with a diamond" seller. I brought it to 3 jewelers, one of which graduated from GIA. All three said it was fake from various techniques and all of them respected in the industry. After purchase, make sure your lab grown diamond really is a lab grown diamond. Mine was not and thank God ebay sided with me, since the seller accused me of trying to defraud them because I returned it after it had been worn for 2 weeks. Be careful of fakes out there.

Well, one jeweler said "could be moissanite but definitely not a diamond" another jeweler's test indicated CZ, the third, the one with the GIA schooling said her thermal test indicated not a diamond, not as dense and she used a microscope to look for what she said was the crystal structure that diamonds have and she did not see it. So to answer your question one said CZ and the other two excluded a diamond but would not go further to test what it really was.

You said eBay, enough said...
Anyone can list anything and make headlines, claims, statements, etc. that aren't factual. Online stores at just slightly more reputable as it takes more time, effort, and money to stand up an eCommerce site/business as compare to eBay where people simply opening an account and list fake merchandise.
At the very least you did right by having it checked out by certified gemologists, but even those people can be bias because the lab grown diamond industry is eating heavily into the natural stone market and bottom line.
There are pros and cons of lab grown diamonds vs natual diamonds, and your scenario wouldnt fit the bill of a con, but more like getting conned.

ah thanks for the heads up. i was really considering this but if its anything but lab diamond then its a pass. the price just appears too good to be true for a lab diamond.

How about spend money and buy a real grown diamond in the ground and not just compare lab identical diamond characteristics???
The easy answer is cost. To get two stones say 4 carat good clarity and little inclusions you could go lab grown and maybe under $2k (guess). But you could also go mined from the ground and spend $23,000 to $187,000 . Hey if you can afford ground mined diamonds I'm happy for you, but not all of us can.

Yeah, right now seems there is a lot of fraud out there. To make things worse, moissanite is really difficult to tell from a real diamond, almost as hard, almost as dense and the old ways to tell a diamond also indicate on moissanite. I think the only real dependable low cost way to tell moissanite from diamond is a refracometer instrument (refractive index) and that takes skill to use. The tools that say they can detect moissanite from diamond has so much false positives and false negatives they are unreliable. There is one reliable instrument that isn't skill based... a raman spectrometer. Unfortunately those things are $15k on the low end, the very low end.
