Get them from firehouse subs. Cheaper, $3, food grade, and benefits their foundation. Pickle smell is easily washed away by filling it with water, some kitchen cleaner or dish soap, and leaving for a day or so.

Yeah, lids may fit but didn't know how universal they are. Looks like their buckets are $4.99 and lids $2.99. https://www.harborfreight.com/lid...56871.html

Home Depot has $2 orange lids and Lowes $3ish blue lids.

Tip: check with local painters, they go thru loads of 5 gallon buckets that they usually just have to recycle.

Most of their buckets only had latex paint in them (think latex gloves). These work great for gardening, tool storage etc.

Edit: to clarify what I had up before, would recommend food grade buckets for anything in contact with food. Another option is using a bucket liner, which prevents non-food grade contact as well.

I remember Firehouse Subs used to sell their old pickle buckets. I don't know if they still do that. Been awhile since I checked. Although, you'd have to deal w/ pickle smell. Probably some way to tackle that.

These Target ones look pretty cool. Thanks for sharing.

Might be worth waiting for the 25% HF coupon if you need a lid.

If you plan to use for dog food or water, check for food grade quality.

It's bucket collusion by the big retailers to make all of their buckets a different color so that you have to buy the lid from them too. They know we wouldn't be caught dead with a mismatched lid color.

FYI - White "food grade" buckets at Walmart are $4.28 and lids are $1.98.
