I tried some weeks ago and instead of Chase issue the card, they sent me a letter saying to call them because someone could steal my data and applied for a card lol.

So, who approve the card in Chase doesn't know Amazon Prime member has to login before see the offer.

I can't understand this behavior in US, phone call has magic powers and still be the #1 "security proof" process.

Same thing happened here - but they sent letter asking additional info and went to bank to submit it and no reply after that. What a waste of time

Thanks! Was looking to drop my sapphire card. My credit is 800+ and I only have a few cards. Could be why mine was an immediate approval. Amazon $200 in my account in a few seconds.

Usually yes with cancelling any card but if you have a very high credit score (800+) then any hit you get wont matter tbh.

I've not applied for a new card in maybe 2 years or better. My wife and I both did this one. Quick $400 more for Christmas, nice. We won't even activate these things… might depending on cash back though, we'll see. I usually don't do these things but $400 is $400.

I applied last year and got instantly approved and used the $200 to buy an indoor bike trainer that at $500 was over my budget but at $300 was doable. It was literally my reason for applying as I really wanted one but $500 was just too much. (Wahoo Core, excellent trainer, super quiet and very well made.)

My mom just applied but got a "We need to review this further" response that doesn't look promising, despite having an income, assets and credit score that should qualify her for it. How often do people who get this response tend to be approved or not? She could use a new tablet.

Why are so many people asking if you can cancel the card as soon as you get and use the $200 GC? Canceling a credit card is rarely good for your credit, and puts you on the issuer's shit list and for good reason. Just keep it active but don't use it. There's no annual fee other than Prime, which I assume you'll keep either way. Having it on your record with a $0 balance can only help your credit rating by increasing your total credit, although it won't hurt to use it every now and then and just pay it off in full so it's effectively a charge card.

Don't forget that any Amazon purchases made with it get you 5% cashback, and sometimes more depending on the category and any promos they're running. I just got 15% back on an annual subscription to Norton Security. It's kind of a no brainer to use it for all Amazon purchases.
