Got my Verizon iPhone today. added a payment method on my new Verizon account.
dialed 8008374966 and provided the new phone number
Said "pay off device" when asked the reason for calling and follow the prompts.
Fully paid the 299$ for the device with Automated system without talking with a live person.

Then called in and spoke to a live person and canceled the line.

Last time a bunch of us did this, I believe we learned that the clock starts ticking for the Verizon 3 day cancellation when the phone ships. Thus it was recommended to only buy in store and not for shipping. I was able to buy in store, create account, call Verizon to pay in full and then cancel all within 24-36 hours.

If you're waiting 3 days for the shipment I don't see you getting out of the activation fee.

Does verizon allow payoff immediately? Or it take a month to payoff.

when is the last time you did this?
I bought an iPhone 13 from them from a promo 2 years ago.
The promo/eip was finally paid off around August of this year.
I called to get it unlocked and tmobile gave me a hard time. They said it was never activated on the line. They were correct. So I got my SIM card from the line I ordered it on, and put it in the iPhone 13. This started the 40 day timer because I kept calling and they literally would tell me the amount of days that the sim was on the 13. The reps would go back and tell me exactly what device was used and for how long.
You have to turn on the phone to get the phone+simcard/esim activated together. If this did not happen then the timer will never triggered.

*can AT&T be unlocked without 60 days active line?*

Who would be easier to unlock Verizon or AT&T?

correct, I did that after being denied the first time. I tried an experiment, after the first 3 days, I took out the sim and put it in an old android phone I have laying around. it reset the timer.

looks like they got even more strict.
I remember a few years ago messaging tforce on twitter and they would unlock my devices without the 40 day requirement as you experienced.

ATT unlock is conflicting

unlock policy says

Your device was paid in full when purchased or paid off through an installment plan. Your installment balance must be zero before unlocking. Nothing mentioned about 60 Day Active Service for Installment plan phones.

https://www.att.com/support/artic...KM1262649/

but when click device unlock eligibility requirements on the unlock page

https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/unlockstep1

Purchased on installment plan, paid off early: The wireless number assigned to the device must be active for at least 60 days. Wait 48 hours after you make your final payment to submit your unlock request.

Verizon is much easier unlock policy.
So with atnt I would need to pay 2 full month of service so I can unlock?

so for a new customer, i would add the phone $8.31 get the cheapest plan which is $75 and pay the $35 activation fee = $118.

Once i get the phone i activate it. wait wither 3 or 14 days, Go into store, pay off the phone $290.59 and also a credit based off 3($7.50) or 14($35) days against the $75?

so my best case is $299+$35 + prorated amount=? am i understanding that correctly?

Thing is in order to unlock it must be active on the account for 60 days at least for Verizon...
