Got my Verizon iPhone today. added a payment method on my new Verizon account.
dialed 8008374966 and provided the new phone number
Said "pay off device" when asked the reason for calling and follow the prompts.
Fully paid the 299$ for the device with Automated system without talking with a live person.

Then called in and spoke to a live person and canceled the line.

Last time a bunch of us did this, I believe we learned that the clock starts ticking for the Verizon 3 day cancellation when the phone ships. Thus it was recommended to only buy in store and not for shipping. I was able to buy in store, create account, call Verizon to pay in full and then cancel all within 24-36 hours.

If you're waiting 3 days for the shipment I don't see you getting out of the activation fee.

Is there any way I can find out the new phone number that was allocated to the account. I forgot to write it down when I placed the order
Were you able to find the new phone number? I also forgot to note the new phone number while ordering and there is no email yet from Verizon with y new number details. Walmart portal says my order will arrive tomorrow but the tracking in fedex just shows label created for more than 36 hours now.

anyone know how to get the phone number before the iPhone arrives? I didn't save the number
I can only see the transaction number, application number and contract number. Where can we see the phone number?

Just a question .. what is the need to pay off the device? Can you not cancel the service, and continue to let Verizon just charge you the $8/month for 36 months until the $299 is paid off? Isn't that like an interest free loan? Or does the phone not unlock unless its paid off?

same here, these Verizon deals never work for me
I believe the soft pull can happen even with credit freeze in place. Is that not the case?

how exactly are they going to charge you with no active line? you think they will cancel a line with money you owe them? come on dude- you have to pay it off. Or feel free to keep the line and pay the line charges for 36 months

Yes. I created a Verizon acct right after I ordered the phone on 11/12. I paid it off yesterday 11/13 through automated call (check back a few pages). I checked my Verizon account and a bill is already available. I chatted with a rep and cancelled the line today 11/14 before even getting the phone. Then the phone arrived and I just need to wait for it to unlock. I don't have the updated bill yet so not sure how much I need to pay for the 2-3 days.
So you paid off the phone and cancelled the line while the phone was in transit correct? The phone was activated upon shipment?

I ordered a phone on Nov 11, scheduled to ship and activate on Nov 12, delayed delivery to Nov 16, but managed to pay off the phone and cancel the order today. Here's how I did it:
1. Download the My Verizon app and register for an account using the phone number and email I provided when purchasing the phone.
2. Register the new Verizon phone number. For verification, since I didn't have the phone yet, it allowed me to verify via email.
3. After successfully creating the online account, add a credit card as a payment method.
4. Call 800-837-4966, provide my Verizon number, and request to pay off the device. They'll confirm the payment using the stored credit card on the account.
5. Once the payment is complete, chat with an agent online to cancel the order immediately.
This process worked smoothly! I'm hoping they will refund the activation fee since I canceled within three days. I'll update once I receive the final bill.
So you paid off the phone and cancelled the line while the phone was in transit correct? The phone was activated upon shipment?

Verizon unlocking policy in the documents states it is locked for 60 days then automatically unlocks.
Do you have to have service or can I pay off the phone, cancel service and then unlock?

I made a Wiki with what I've done so far:

* Paid off devices
* Updated purchase dates with Apple
* Requested SIM unlock
* Disconnecting line

To recap, phones bought 11/11. Shipped 11/12. Activated 11/12. Arrived 11/14. Total about $7 for 3 days of service. No activation fee. But if they would have come in tomorrow, I'm sure the fee would have stuck.

The phone and the line are separate no? Of course they should let you cancel a line since you don't owe anything on the line just the phone. This is a device payment plan not a bill credit. You are not closing the account so you would still have a payment method on file.

I got mine last evening. Tried to "pay off device" by calling the number mentioned in the above chats, and bot sent me a link for paying off where Its saying I don't have any eligible device to pay off until the 16th.
Tried customer support live person, and I was told it's not possible until the 26th of this month. Then, I followed the message from WittyCircle428, which is in the top comments, and it worked.

WittyCircle428 -Got my Verizon iPhone today. added a payment method on my new Verizon account.
dialed 8008374966 and provided the new phone number
Said "pay off device" when asked the reason for calling and follow the prompts.
Fully paid the 299$ for the device with Automated system without talking with a live person.
Then called in and spoke to a live person and canceled the line.

Just to make sure, you add CC to your Verizon account and then call from a different number to "pay off device". After calling 8008374966, you need to share your new number when it asks for a number with the area code before you can pay off your device.
Got mine this evening. Turned it on and connected it to wifi and it activated.

Followed WittyCircle428's instructions and it worked perfectly.

At first I tried to use Chat to cancel my line but the turnaround on each interaction was so slow that I decided to call in. Got a rep who was awesome and took care of it all. Cost me $12 to take care of the bill. So easy and I did not need to leave the house.

This what I did to pay off the device over the phone. I am new to Verizon.
1. As soon as the order is shipped by Walmart, Called Verizon 1800 922 0204
2. Asked the agent for my new phone and account no
3. Agent was able to create an account online for me with my e-mail id
4. Agent was able to process the payment for the Device over the phone (processed through e-mail).
Now I will have to contact them to cancel my account.
My phone won't be here until Sunday. I will try to place an order for another device.

So if I was to do this online - can I still do this and get my activation fee back? Or do I lose out on that?

Could someone list steps to do this if you go the online route? Stores near me don't seem to carry phones and wireless
