Got my Verizon iPhone today. added a payment method on my new Verizon account.
dialed 8008374966 and provided the new phone number
Said "pay off device" when asked the reason for calling and follow the prompts.
Fully paid the 299$ for the device with Automated system without talking with a live person.

Then called in and spoke to a live person and canceled the line.

Last time a bunch of us did this, I believe we learned that the clock starts ticking for the Verizon 3 day cancellation when the phone ships. Thus it was recommended to only buy in store and not for shipping. I was able to buy in store, create account, call Verizon to pay in full and then cancel all within 24-36 hours.

If you're waiting 3 days for the shipment I don't see you getting out of the activation fee.

I was able to get the waiver for the activation fees. However the first month charges still shows the line fees and the device fees (althought I have already paid the device off completely)

Called the verizon 800 number and talked to a bot - the link it sent always said the device was already paid off. There was no option to pay it with the bot by voice call. Anyone still runs into the same problem?

maybe it would have better to divide the forum room into 2 threads. A Verizon thread and a ATT thread. I know I just wanted a Verizon thread to find out how to UNLOCK the phone in 60 days.I did decide to go with the Straight talk iphone 13 for 199 for phone and silver plan for 45 dollars, I got the phone, activated it with silver plan and immediately got the UNLOCK date of jan 15th 2025. No hoops to jump, and peace of mind. I would have liked to buy the phone in this thread for 100 dollars more, but it really was too confusing for me. Congrats if Verizon iphone 14 worked for you and only 100 more than iphone 13 (I am enjoying the iphone 13, so I am happy).
How do you know the UNLOCK date for Straight talk phone?

OMG, that's exactly what I did, cancelling without turning on the phone. What can I do now?
One of the representative asked me to call once I get the phone as they were unable to reactivate it

Have you paid off and cancelled already without receiving your phone? If so, how can you call when you receive the phone?

For those who purchased Verizon, were you able to get phone unlocked? How about those that purchased AT&T deal, did the eSIM swap work for you?
Esim swap worked for me and already sold the phone as an unlocked device

While I wait for the phone to arrive, I am having second thoughts
This seems to good to be true -

Total Cost for an iphone 14 - 299 + activation (maybe zero if done in 3 days) + service (prorated)

The phone is being subsidized by Verizon on the pretext that they will earn a customer for 36 months.
Isnt the 36 months of service tied to the phone being so cheap. I am worried that a 400-500 $ will show up one fine day
No. It's not subsidized by Verizon, but by WM. They bought all this stock and now they're getting rid of it basically.

The do an agreement with Verizon and ATT so the customer doesn't have to fork out $300 and has a phone without service as they don't know better. So the carriers offer a lease for cheap over 36 months. Or by playing runarounds the customer pays an activation fee and maybe a month or two of service.

Got two phones under the deal. $299 + tax + about $7 in 3 days of service each. Now just waiting for the 60 days.

Most of the comments are for buying and paying off. I wanted to upgrade my dad from SE 2 to this. He's already a current Verizon member. Anyone have issues with a straight upgrade?
I would not recommend this deal for an upgrade. You may be able to get a 15 or 16 for same price or even free. Look for special loyalty offers. Recently we upgraded a line to a 16 pro for $5 a month for 36 months (could have done a regular 16 for free), no trade at all, and no need to switch plans from Unlimited Welcome (most basic plan).

I had to call in and talk to an agent to get my phone number. After that, I added my credit card to the payment methods and paid off the phone using the automated system.
Went to the chat and typed in Unlock device - the device in question was displayed. When I selected that, I got a message saying that the phone is already unlocked !
I thought we were supposed to wait for 60 days.

btw - I havent opened the box yet.
They maybe are unlocked for international use. They are still locked for Verizon though.

I tried to pay off the device, but got this message, "As the payment was not updated on your account, you cannot make the payment and will need to wait for the next billing cycle." Can I still cancel the service and payoff the device later?

I received final invoice from verizon and looks like I am being charged activation fee despite cancelling on third day of placing order.

Dont they waive automatically or do we have to talk to them for waiver?
You need to check when is the effective date of the cancellation. Because reps would set it for a week later instead of day you call. Your final bill should show the days in service. If more than 3 days, then the $35 activation fee stays.
