Factory unlock is never a requirement as far as I'm aware for any trade-in deal I've considered.

Carrier lock does not matter. They just mean it has to be factory reset or logged out of apple account if iPhone

They tried to scam me. I traded in an iPad mini 2 fully factory reset and wiped. They claimed personal info was still on it. I called in and they ended up giving me the credit. Honestly from the way the agent was talking and how quickly he applied the credit I am convinced it was 100% intentionally planned, they hope some buyers will just eat it.
Take photos and even of yourself reseting(blur/hide passwords and other info) it so they can't argue.
In the end I actually don't love my S22 but no good way to return to them with the trade factored in.

Activation lock is not a SIM lock. It means you can't trade in an iPhone or Samsung device that has been locked down due to reported theft.
