Proton is making their password program available for a lifetime purchase of $199 instead of the limited free version or the monthly fee of $4.99 a month. This will pay for itself in 3 years and 4 months (or sooner if costs invariably go up). If you paid monthly fee for 50 years the cost would be ~$3k. Access is via iOS, Android or Web browser plugin. Sale Ends Dec 3, 2024.

Overall this is a great deal. I already subscribe to their premium which I'm paying $25ish a year for. With a little math that means In 8 years the lifetime subscription will pay for itself.
Be aware though that lifetime subscriptions with tech companies don't always mean lifetime. Companies can rebrand, merge, or be sold off or absorbed into other companies and they can use that as justification to invalidate lifetime licenses. My VPN, Ivacy, Just did that to me when they merged into PureVPN. Suddenly all our lifetime licenses are no longer valid.
So overall I guess just be aware that there is always the chance that you won't get your value (over time) out of something like this but proton is a company that I like and I trust and that's enough for me to jump in on this offer with a little faith that it will work out 👍
Dynamite services in general, esp. for those wishing to degoogle/apple themselves. I still prefer Bitwarden premium but try to use Pass as well, which has a nice Alias email feature, and Bitwarden does sync (or vice-versa) with Pass, so it's all good.

I am one of those people who subscribed to Proton pass when it was newly announced and they had a $1/m for life plan. I switched to Proton unlimited yesterday. I contacted Proton customer support and asked them to clarify if they would honor the plan I was previously on, if I cancelled unlimited plan in the future. They wrote to me they would make an exception for me and continue to honor it if I did decide to cancel and revert the old plan.
This looks like a good deal to people who decide to stick to Proton pass for so long. For people who got the plan I mentioned, that is a better deal in my opinion.
50 years, laughable. Proton Pass has only been around for a little more than a year. Let's hope they're around 3.5 years from now when you'll finally break even. I'd try for a month before throwing $200 at this.
I'll pass. Unfortunately "lifetime" means nothing anymore as companies close their doors suddenly all the time, regardless of how long they've been around.

Like Windscribe did with their 50GB free lifetime Vpn plan.
First, they decided to downgrade it. Then, after backlash, they said "you will get to keep it until Vladimir Putin has passed away." LOL

wow.. I just read through that reddit post. Windscribe is so shitty for this. "we never specified whose lifetime the plan was for"... f*&k those cu#ts. This is why im always super skeptical of lifetime license offers.
