They mean it about the car tires.
I've had a cheapo harbor freight compressor, and tried to inflate a car tire with it. Don't remember if it was Pittsburgh brand, but looked a lot like this one.

haha i have this one. i've never been able to successfully pump anything up with it lol
I have one of these in the spare tire compartment in my cars. used them a couple times. I treat is as a emergency disposable pump. This is about the right price for that.

It's not the pressure that breaks these compressors, it is the long run time with big tires that overheats them. They would probably work fine with small tires like bicycle tires.
I have a larger one that works fine on large tires, even filling a few SUV tires from empty.

I have a larger one that works fine on large tires, even filling a few SUV tires from empty.
I regret buying it, and no way was it the price listed when I got it. I'd assume the same $5 or maybe $10.
I don't know what's better, but risk it with a different product.
This is a disposable absolute last resort for a car, or fine for something like a bicycle, scooter, stroller, etc.
