Thank you for letting me know of the FCC rules. You are correct. I have not received the phones yet as I just ordered them and, yes, I am worried about porting out of ST (not worried about porting in - assuming that will happen if I provide info). However, I did create an account when I bought the phones and I happened to be checking the status of my orders and was scrolling through the my account page.

On the bottom, they have a number transfer pin request section and they spell out the locked number restriction for pin transfer. Considering any phone is locked only for 60 days, I am not sure how this short term lockage would play out for pin transfer.

It's my 1st time with ST. I have also had the number for two decades, so I don't want to risk idling it for a month just to avoid paying an extra month of service. I need to port out of Mint asap so I may just park my real number somewhere else for cheap and just request a new number (less thinking, lower risk).
Porting out of ST is straightforward, though not immediate in my experience. The account number is the IMEI of your ST phone and you can easily request a transfer PIN online. I was with ST for a short period of time earlier this year (due to the SE 3 deal). Like you, I had used my "keeper" number with ST since my time with Verizon was about to end. So a few days before my month with ST was up I initiated the port-out. But like I said it wasn't immediate - I think I waited about an hour before calling CS as I was worried that the port-out would take days and I might lose my number. Getting through to CS was easy, and the guy explained that it was normal for the port-out to take a bit of time but he would push it through for me. The port-out finished while I was on the call with him. The next day, I decided to port-out my wife's number. I started it late in the evening, and again it didn't happen immediately, but I knew that was expected so I just waited. When I got up the next morning, the port-out had already been completed.

So I woudn't be worried about porting out of ST, but to be safe don't leave it to the very last day of your billing cycle.

Currently have a IPhone XR. Is this worth the upgrade?
If you are OK with your XR, then probably no need to upgrade.
But for me, I think it's worth it.
Remember, the XR is 3 year older so iPhone 13 has faster processor, and better screen.
The XR only has single len camera, the 13 has dual cameras, with Ultrawide, 2X optical zoom/5X digital zoom.
The 13 has night mode so if photos will be better at night or in dark room.
Also I upgraded mainly cuz 13 has a minimum of 128GB storeage, where as my previous XR only has 64GB.
Besides, I needed a fresh battery as well.

Is there a reason no one is talking about the Boost Mobile deal? $149 for a new iPhone 13 and you have to get the $60 a month plan and it comes out to $209. Am I missing something?

got 18% on C1 + chase preferred $15 which gives extra 1 year warranty as well. Good for backup phone
Did you stack 18% C1 and Chase $15? But didn't you have to pay with C1 credit card in order to get the18%? BTW I saw that C1 shopping offers only 10% and it excludes plans.

>>My ST unlocked phone wouldn't activate as a BYOP on Tracfone until it had been automatically removed from account - took at least 10 weeks from activation.

Does that mean no need to call ST, just wait 10 weeks, the IMEI of the phone automatically removed from your account?
If I recall correctly, you can also remove the device / IMEI from the ST website. Log in and go to "Manage Lines", then "Device" and then "Remove from account" (see pic). I believe that completely removes that device / IMEI from your account. However, I wouldn't do it while the line is still active, as I believe the line then becomes unassociated with any device and you'd need to mess with reactivating to get it going again.

Also, there is a possibility that you might be able to activate the brand new ST phone on your existing TF or Total Wireless account as if you purchased it from them (without ever activating it on ST). I actually did that with a cross-company phone like that a while ago and it still unlocked after 60 days. In past years, you needed to have a phone "rebranded" by calling them before doing that, but some of the newer phones work fine with an activation on the sister company as if it was their own phone. For instance, I purchased a phone from ST, but then went to the TF website and logged into that account and then chose "activate new phone" and "phone purchased from TF" (even though it was from ST) and the online activation proceeded smoothly on my existing TF phone number, just as if I had purchased the phone as an upgrade from them. Note that this gets into a YMMV situation that may be more messing than most people probably want to try, but just mentioning it as a curiosity. Also, if you attempt that, I'd probably only try it if you can get the automatic online activation to accept it as a native TF or Total device … if you have to call them, the rep might enter it as a BYOD phone, which could mess up the automatic unlock. Also, you'd lose the month of service from ST that you paid for in case you care about it.

Looks like the Boost Mobile deal requires 12 months to unlock.

During checkout it asks for a login (or you can create a new one). Would it be ok to use the same email that I used back in November of last year to get the SE 3, or should I use a new email? I see that they still have my info from before if I use the same email.

It's locked to boost and you have to stay with boost for one year to get it unlocked, that's even worse than metro

Also, FWIW the IP13 has the same processor as the IP14... LITERALLY the exact same (except for one extra GPU core, big woof). Yes, there's other small features too but we are really reaching diminishing returns here with updates
2GB less RAM is more important for longevity but year they are pretty even

So I'm planning to purchase this phone for my dad but he is already a straight talk user. This deal will just send me the phone and a 30 day card, right? And I will be able to activate it and carry his number over to the new phone correct?
