You don't want to do that (if I'm following what you're thinking). If you get an ST SIM that utilizes the TMo network, that's just the backbone network … it would still be a Metro-locked phone. Also, it would then take a year to unlock rather than 60 days.
got it thanks.

I don't know if he did because I don't have a phone number for it. He said when I log in it will walk me thru setting up the phone number.

He gave me a paper that said if I'm a new customer I would need my email address and the pin (on the paper) to access my account.
You can always try the return and see how it goes. If they say anything about the plan, just say that you've never opened / activated the phone and of course never used it in any way. It can depend on the store as to how they handle refunds. Just be aware that they may give some pushback about the plan, so don't mention it yourself but be prepared if they do.

According to chat agent this won't affect it. You can comeback after 3 months and redeem the points for a gift card I think. This is what they told me.
"The cooling period of the points will not be affected even you have services or not. The only thing that will affect if the account was not reactivated is the phone number you have.We have a policy that if a phone is not reactivated for 60 days, the phone number will be removed from the account and returned to our carrier."
" your account will remain with us even if you don't use it for more than a year. This is because it will be saved in our database"

Either way. If people are buying the phone its worth a shot. Its a nice deal w/o or with the Straight Talk Reward Points. You don't lose anything in trying it tbh.

This is completely wrong. Many, many people have tried it and the points disappear if not active service throughout the vesting period. The reps are notoriously clueless about most everything.

Edit: it looks like the chat agents may have been referring to points which are already earned and have been vested with months of active service. Those will still be good for a while after a line goes inactive. But to earn them initially, it definitely requires multiple months of active service.

I activate the plan without open the phone, however the line is not show up on the account even when the activation message show my correct email. Any idea to solve this? I don't want to open it since it is a gift.

I read that the information from 1-2 years ago is not actual for ST, so just to confirm if I already activated the phone with the SIM card supplied, it is still (as of November 2024) OK (to get unlock in 60 days) to move SIM to another device?
And before moving the SIM I need to text "ONESTEP" from the new iPhone to 611611.

Yeah, the WM deal can be a bit confusing … when they do it there, the reps are supposed to go into the WARP system and activate the ST line/number before you even leave the store. Many do it that way, but some don't. When they do it like that, the line is up and activated and the plan period is already ticking down from 29 days, even if you never opened the phone (at least that's the way it often worked last year with the SE3, which also required in-store activation).
Quote from RUBYSTEVENS :
If you got it through a WARP rep, it's tied to the phone, you won't be able to use it.

99% positive it's already active.

They refunded the full amount but put the $45 for the minutes on a gift card which is fine with me

No one seemed to know who should do the return. Electronics said cust serv, cust serv said electronics. They had me going back and forth 4 times.

Finally someone called and they said return is done in electronics. There was a manager back there and she said they should not have processed the sale thru the WARP system because it makes the returns difficult. She claimed prepaid phones should be sold thru the register only. She is also the one that told the electronics employee since the system wouldn't let them refund the minutes back to my card to put it on a gift card

Awesome … glad it worked out. It sounds like you ended up on the right side of Walmart chaos for once, lol. I think last year they were pushing to make sure that employees were doing the activations in-store since that was supposed to be a requirement of the deal. Not sure if they've backed off on that a bit or maybe just a difference with how your store does things, but it's cool that it worked out.

Hi All,

I got my phone and tried to activate it online as well as the telephone automated system and I get hung up on the part that says pay with credit card or redeem PIN. It appears that the system is not recognizing that I prepaid with 1 month for the silver unlimited plan. Did anyone else have this issue and what was your solution?

Just to confirm the "Redeem PIN" is not any number on my SIM card correct?

Thanks!

You tried at ST, not Total, right? If so, get your order info, imei, etc and call support.

Make sure that you're activating it at ST, not one of the sister companies. Also, make sure that you select "New phone purchased from ST" at the activation. You don't want to choose "I have my own phone", as that will be looking for a plan to be purchased separately.

TracFone will remotely unlock the phone when it becomes eligible for unlocking, provided it meets the following conditions:
The cellphone has not been reported stolen or lost, and there are no indicators of fraud.
Is moving the sim fraud? I have no idea what ONESTEP is.

Thanks. I don't think I would have gotten so lucky if the manager wasn't there nod
