You don't need the sticker.
Just boot in, open a PowerShell terminal (right-click the Start button, go to PowerShell Admin), and drop in "wmic path softwareLicensingService get OA3xOriginalProductKey".
If that doesn't work — as WMIC commands may be deprecated on some systems — try this PowerShell alternative: "(Get-WmiObject -query 'select * from SoftwareLicensingService').OA3xOriginalProductKey".
If neither command provides the product key, you can also retrieve it directly from the Registry. Open the Registry Editor (search for "regedit" and press Enter), then navigate to Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SoftwareProtectionPlatform. In that location, look for BackupProductKeyDefault — it should display the product key there.

The motherboard serial number is stored in Microsoft activation servers. Once it's been activated, future installs will automatically update once they connect to the activation server.

I always reinstall the OS regradless of brand but I've not seen a single report claiming Malware on Miniforums systems.

Maybe I'm just out of the loop, but isn't this a great price for a PC in general? I just bought some refurb Dells mini PCs and they were 300-400 for 5 year old Intel. I kind of want to get one just to play around with it.
Yes it is a good price. And yes whole computer prices have steadily declined in the past 2 years. Storage and RAM prices have gone up in 2024 compared to 2023 but newer processor prices came way down. 5 year old Intel is now basically not worth anything.

It is definitely possible to write malware into the firmware at which point it is nearly impossible to remove. Not alleging this computer, or any computer on the market, is doing this. But it is very much within the technical and financial possibilities.
At the risk of bricking it, you could also try an open-source BIOS:

I do that too but I have always wondered... what if the malware is in the UEFI firmware?

Firmware is tightly controlled by most companies and companies like to limited the amount of memory is dedicated to the UEFI Firmware. Is it possible, Yes. But I've not see it in the Wild yet. Plus a fresh flash of the Firmware should remove it.

Coupon takes $35 off the Minisforum UM680/UM760/UM870 Slim barebones making it $204. May be better for people who have spare RAM/SSD. https://store.minisforum.com/prod...0999559413

CPU comparison https://www.cpubenchmark.net/comp...n-5-7640HS
It says "NO OS&CPU&SSD" but surely it includes the CPU?

Flash the firmware and install Linux. Personally, that is the route I would take.

How good would this be for a home theater pc for pretty large video files? I have an old pc in a giant rackable case with an Nvidia 1080 and it seems to be ok, but id like to upgrade the machine and shrink the form factor if possible. I use Kodi and Launchbox primarily on my old PC.

Flash the firmware with what? The same firmware that is already on there? Or are you saying that someone in the supply chain between the manufacturer and the customer might have modified the firmware?

If you guys are concerned about malware, just buy M4 Mac mini and call it a day.
This actually has decent storage, not the measly soldered in/unupgradable 256gb storage that Mac mini has. Mac mini with 1TB is a whopping $999 just to line Tim Apple and APPL shareholder pockets.
You can also upgrade the SSD on this later if you want to. Solid deal here.

Actually there was a tear down of the Mac mini m4 and it looks like Apple made it upgradable or at least easy to repair. The SSD is now separated so you could replace it. Still not as simple as dropping in any SSD but progress.

Have to replace the NAND chips to upgrade so not that great but better than before at least lol

Edit: Not sure why the downvotes. If you check out the disassembly videos, it does indeed show that Apple has seem to move away from soldering it directly onto the motherboard and make it easy to take apart the computer. I just bought the Mac Mini M4 as my first mac and look forward to using it (low power home server or development machine) but I'll still be happily using my Windows PCs. Of course the Mac Mini may not be right choice for everybody but it is still another choice that people can consider and I just wanted to address the past criticism that people had for older Mac Minis. It seems like Apple is taking a step in the right direction which is good for us consumers.

Or, suggest look into a Mac Mini with a M Series CPU -- thanks to new M4 Mini the older models are cheap now! All of the Minis will be faster, stabler, and without risk of privacy issues by Minisforum.

Add an external thunderbolt SSD drive and storage isnt an issue (Macs let you install the OS or move the user folder to an external drive)

Yes in past Mac Mini wasnt such a value proposition, but now with the M4 16gb base its quite a value at $499 edu pricing

A company is working on a replacement SSD card for the M4 Mini, and is releasing one for the Mac Sudio

Yep! I look forward to hearing updates and may upgrade my 256gb storage in the future. Probably no need right away and hopefully it will be cheap in the future (or at least much cheaper than the apple tax)
