Earlier this year leaked documents revealed the extent of greed in the running shoe industry. Custom duty lists for the Swiss brand ON Running were obtained by a news publication in Switzerland. The documents showed the actual landed prices that ON pays its Vietnam contract manufacturer. Most ON models that sell for $200 and up cost ON between $21 and $24. The markup for each shoe model ranges from 10:1 at the "low" end to as high as 20:1.

https://www.perfect-tennis.com/on...it-markup/

I would expect that Asics, HOKA, and Adidas are no different.

Really? Here's the price for each of the last five models during primary run:

Nimbus 22 (2019) $150
Nimbus 23 (2020) $150
Nimbus 24 (2022) $150
Nimbus 25 (2023) $160
Nimbus 26 (2024) $160

If you're going to boycott a company because of a $10 (6.6%) increase over five generations in the span of five years, you'd need to boycott Hoka, Saucony, Nike, and just about everyone else for much bigger increases in that time.

Got a pair for the same price during October prime event. Good shoe but was a downgrade versus the 25, at least for wife's preference. Feels firmer/less cushioned than the 25

Yeah all running shoe manufacturers for this shoe (Neural, Max Cushion) all have MSRPs of 160. Hoka is creeping up with On, at 165 and 170 for these models.

Most things I've read say the 25s are more comfy, but they rubbed against the outside of my foot. The 26s are definitely the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned.

The Nimbus is a good deal at $60-75. Search previous deals posted on Slickdeals.

Depends on your running style, stability and cushioning preference. Asics has a shoe fit guide on their website (Find your fit), that I found useful.

Does anyone know if this price is about the same or cheaper than buying it in Japan locally? Heading there in a couple of months and planning on stopping by their flagship store in Harujuku.

Lived in Japan for 4 years. I highly doubt it.

Highly doubt it as in it is still cheaper to buy in Japan when comparing to the current sale price or this sale price is cheaper than buying it in Japan? Smilie

To be fair, most shoe brands have hiked prices and have also been stingy with the discounts.

Only a hypocrite on slick deals will compare MSRP. I routinely buy these and I would consider 80-90 to be a deal. I am going to make a stand here and I will try a different brand next time.
